Roach predicts 1st round knockout win for Pacquiao over Algieri
By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach has been making knockout predictions for his fighter Manny Pacquiao for many years now, and his fight against Chris Algieri this Saturday night will be no exception.
Roach sees Pacquiao stopping the 30-year-old Algieri in the 1st round when the two fighters get inside the ring this Saturday night, November 22nd, in Macau, China. Pacquiao hasn’t scored a knockout over an opponent since his 12th round stoppage win over Miguel Cotto in 2009. Even in that fight, you can make an argument that the fight should have been allowed to continue due to Cotto still fighting back.
Why Chris Algieri will beat Pacquiao
By BK: This Saturday night, the little known Chris Algieri will step into what could end up being the biggest fight of his career against Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao for the 147 welterweight WBO world championship.
Algieri is coming off a 12 round split decision victory over Ruslan Provodnikov to win the light welterweight 140 WBO world title. Algieri was a huge underdog in this fight due to fighting on undercards and not being part of big fights that would generate a huge recognition in the casual fan eye.
Will Algieri upset Manny Pacquaio?
By Bob Smith: It is unquestionably the case that Manny Pacquaio has declined as a boxer over the last few years, partly due to the aging process, partly due to his wars with Marquez and Bradley, as well as the cumulative effect of all his difficult fights. However, he is not yet to the point where Floyd Mayweather actively seeks to fight him, and this more than anything should tell the reader about his chances of being upset by Algieri.
First, off who is Chris Algieri? He is a very talented athlete, who started training in martial arts at the age of 10, and received a black belt at age 15. He is a former undefeated professional kick boxer, who was a welterweight world champion before deciding to retire and to move on to boxing. As if this were not enough, he was also a nationally ranked wrestler in high school, and has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in nutrition.
Khan expects Algieri to give Pacquiao problems
By Chris Williams: Amir Khan believes that WBO light welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) has slipped a couple of notches at age 35, and he feels that he could have problems in his next fight on November 22nd against undefeated Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) in Macau, China.
Khan thinks Pacquiao’s performances in his last four fights have been less than impressive, and while he’s won his last two fights against Tim Bradley and Brandon Rios, he felt that Pacquiao failed to impress in either of those bouts.
Algieri will be looking to continue his domination of Pacquiao
By Chris Williams: Unbeaten Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) has dominated Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) in the four sports they completed in while on their press tour. Algieri sees their November 22nd fight this month as being more of a continuation of that, as he feels he’s a better athlete than Pacquiao.
Algieri beat Pacquiao in basketball, bowing, pool and batting practice. Being a better fighter than Pacquiao in four separate sports says a lot about Algieri. It tells you that he’s the better athlete and it also suggests that he has the better IQ, because it takes intelligence to beat your opponent in so many different sports. Whether Algieri’s superior talent in those sports will transfer over to boxing is the big question.
Algieri not worried about Roach’s trash talking
By Chris Williams: Unbeaten challenger Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) isn’t too concerned with all the trash talking that WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach has been making recently as they head in to the November 22nd fight in Macao, China.
Roach has talked trash since day one, but recently he’s increased his trash talking to another level in taking more verbal shots at the 30-year-old Algieri. You can’t blame Roach for wanting to talk more trash at this point in the game, because he’s got to be generally concerned about his aging 35-year-old fighter Pacquiao losing to Algieri.
Pacquiao: So what if Algieri has a Master’s degree? I have a Master’s degree in boxing
By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) isn’t all that impressed with the Master’s degree that his opponent Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) has going for him. Pacquiao says he has a Master’s degree in boxing from his many years as a pro. Pacquiao started his pro career in 1995, and he feels that experience puts him in the class of a Master’s degree holder.
Pacquiao also says he has an honorary doctorate degree. Unfortunately, there’s a big difference between someone that earns a Masters or Doctorate degree than a situation where someone well-known is giving an honorary degree.
Pacquiao: I have to stop Algieri from running
By Chris Williams: It’s no secret that WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) hasn’t been matched against too many mobile fighters during his long 19-year pro career.
It’s also no secret that Pacquiao struggled badly in a recent fight where he had to deal with the mobile Tim Bradley two years ago. Perhaps for that reason, Pacquiao is concerned about how he’s going to deal with his next opponent Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) on November 22nd at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, in Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.
Algieri will have his WBO 140lb title vacated for facing Pacquiao
By Chris Williams: Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) will be sacrificing his WBO 140 pound title for challenging World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) next month on November 22nd in Macau, China.
Algieri will be forced to vacate his WBO light welterweight title, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com.
This means that Algieri will need to start from scratch if he gets beaten by Pacquiao. Algieri won’t have his WBO 140lb title waiting for him to defend, or even have the option of choosing which title to defend if he gets past Pacquiao on 11/8.
