Malik Scott: Too good not to box

scott4

By Gav Duthie: Malik Scott: Too good not to box but too scared to succeed? Last Saturday night, I witnessed one of the meekest, most feeble, timid and frightened performances I’ve ever seen in a boxing ring. Malik ‘King’ or ‘The Noble Artist’ Scott talked his way into a fight with heavyweight bogeyman Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz 27-0 (22). You would have thought Malik was fighting the actual King Kong the way he ran around the ring avoiding confrontation.

The main reason for my dismay was that I actually like Malik Scott. He is such a talented fighter and the way he moves, his foot speed and hand speed for a man his size he should be a genuine contender. It’s mentally where his problem lies, he has been boxing for 25 years but he didn’t want to take a punch. Where has it went wrong for Malik Scott, Why was he so reluctant to go out and win and did he expose Ortiz to any extent in his 12 round decision loss.

What next for Luis Ortiz?

ortiz433

By Dominic Chapman: After Saturday nights one sided but very lackluster victory over Malik Scott, there will be a lot of questions on boxing fans minds today. Main one’s being is Luis Ortiz really as good as he has been portrayed? And How does he fit into the heavyweight picture now?

Before last nights fight in Monte Carlo, Luis Ortiz was one of if not the most feared heavyweights in the world. No one really wanted a piece of the 6ft 4in Cuban Southpaw. After recently signing with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and Hearn himself admitting he wanted Ortiz to be active, it was up to him to find a suitable match for the dangerous Ortiz. Up stepped 36 year old American Malik Scott (38-2-1, 13KOs) who talked his way into the fight.

Luis Ortiz exposed!

ortiz12

By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport is going to need to think hard what they’re going to do with heavyweight contender Luis ‘King Kong” Ortiz (26-0, 22 Kos) after the way he struggled tonight to take out the high level journeyman Malik Scott (38-3-1, 13 KOs) in their fight at Salle des Étoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Ortiz was forced to go the full 12 round distance to defeat Scott by a decision, and he was not impressive at all in the fight. This is the same Malik Scott that the talented Deontay Wilder took out in one round with a left-right combination in 2014. Ortiz didn’t have the power to finish off Scott, even though he did knock him down three times in the fight in winning by the scores 120-105, 120-106, and 119-106.

Luis Ortiz vs. Malik Scott – Results

By Eric Baldwin: #1 WBA heavyweight contender Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz (26-0, 22 KOs) labored to a dull 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night over the timid looking Malik Scott (38-3-1, 13 KOs) in a dull fight at the Salle des Étoiles, in Monte Carlo.

Luis Ortiz vs. Malik Scott tonight

ortiz23

By Allan Fox: Undefeated heavyweight contender Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz (25-0, 22 KOs) has an important fight tonight against Malik Scott (38-2-1, 13 KOs) in a fight on HBO Boxing in Monte Carlo. The fight has high stakes for Ortiz, because a win against Scott will move him within striking distance of a title fight against fellow Matchroom Sport fighter IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs) in 2017.

Their promoter Eddie Hearn is saying that he wants to match Ortiz and Joshua against each other in 10 to 12 months if everything goes right with both fighters winning their fights.
Malik Scott, 36, was selected to give Ortiz a good fight, but he wasn’t picked out with the thought that he had the chance of beating him.

Luis Ortiz wants Deontay after Malik Scott

ortiz94

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten Cuban heavyweight Luis “King Kong” Ortiz (25-0, 22 KOs) says he wants to fight for a world title against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder when/if he gets past Malik Scott this Saturday night in Monte Carlo. It seems that the 37-year-old Ortiz is bothered by some of the comments that the hard hitting Wilder has made in the media about him.

Ortiz might want to hold off on taking on the dangerous 6’7” Wilder though, because he has a chance for a big payday against IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs) in 2017, as long as he doesn’t get upset along the way. Ortiz is now signed with Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport in the UK, and it’s likely that Hearn will want to keep Ortiz in a separate lane until he can match him against Joshua for a big UK bash.

Luis Ortiz vs. Malik Scott – Official weights

ortiz23

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten highly rated #1 WBA heavyweight contender Luis “King Kong” Ortiz weighed in at 239.5 pounds during Friday’s weigh-in for his fight against the serviceable Malik Scott for Saturday’s fight on HBO World Boxing in Monte Carlo.

Malik (38-2-1, 13 KOs) weighed in at a heavy looking 246.4lbs. What was interesting about the two straightaway was that the 6’4” Malik appeared to be at least one inch taller than Ortiz, and clearly the heavier looking of the two. This suggests that the listed 6’4” height that Ortiz has isn’t legit. He looks no more than 6’3”. That’s not an issue for this fight, of course, because Malik is obviously not in the same class as Ortiz in terms of talent, boxing skills, power and experience, but it might be a problem in the future for the Cuban when he starts facing the giants in the heavyweight division.

Luis Ortiz: I’m ready for Joshua, Wilder & Klitschko

ortiz86

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Luis “King Kong” Ortiz (25-0, 22 KOs) hasn’t yet taken care of business yet in his fight against Malik Scott (38-2-1, 13 KOs) in their fight on Saturday and yet he’s already calling out Anthony Joshua Deontay Wilder and Wladimir Klitschko. Ortiz believes he can beat him all.

Well, we’re going to find out if the 6’4” Cuban Ortiz can beat Malik Scott on Saturday, because he’s going to be facing him on HBO Championship Boxing from the Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo. Ortiz is a heavy favorite to beat the 36-year-old Scott, but that doesn’t matter.

The soon to be 38-year-old Ortiz has put himself in position to get at least a fight against Joshua now that he’s signed with Matchroom Sport, the promoters for Joshua. That still doesn’t mean the fight is going to happen though.

Malik Scott ready to upset Luis Ortiz

ortiz-vs-scott-576x32424

By Eric Baldwin: Malik Scott (38-2-1, 13 KOs) comes into this Saturday’s contest against unbeaten #1 WBA heavyweight contender Luis “King Kong” Ortiz (25-0, 22 KOs) as the heavy underdog for their 12 round fight at the Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

The 36-year-old Scott doesn’t care that he’s the underdog, as he feels he’s ready to pull off a big upset over the Cuban Ortiz when they get inside the ring on Saturday night. Scott and Ortiz will fight for the vacant WBA Inter-Continental heavyweight title.

Malik hasn’t done much to rate a fight against the 6’4” Ortiz. Malik has lost two out of his last five fights since 2013. His losses came against Deontay Wilder and Dereck Chisora.

Malik Scott sees flaws in Luis Ortiz

ortiz553

By Allan Fox: Malik Scott isn’t impressed with unbeaten #1 WBA heavyweight contender Luis Ortiz like many of the casual boxing fans who follow the sport. Scott (38-2-1, 13 KOs) sees a lot of weaknesses that he believes he can exploit when the two heavyweights fight each other next month on November 12 on HBO Boxing After Dark at the Sailes des Etoiles, in Monte Carlo. Ortiz (25-0, 22 KOs) clearly isn’t as good as many fans and writers believe him to be.

Ortiz’s fighting style is made to order for a big heavyweight with right hand power, speed and stamina. Ortiz is slow, and he walks into shots. He also looks a lot older than his 37-years in this writer’s opinion. Ortiz’s power isn’t as good many of the other heavyweights in the division.
