Oleksandr Usyk stops Johnny Muller

usyk5667By Jim Dower: Undefeated #2 WBO cruiserweight contender Oleksandr Usyk (8-0, 8 KOs) stayed in line for an eventual world title shot by defeating #15 WBO fringe contender Johnny Muller (19-5-2, 13 KOs) by a third round stoppage tonight in a one-sided fight from the Palace of Sports in Kiev, Ukraine.

The 28-year-old Usyk, a 2012 Olympic gold medalist from Ukraine, dropped Muller twice in the 3rd round. Usyk then unloaded with a flurry of shots until referee Ingo Barrabas stepped in and halted the fight with Muller still on his feet and bleeding from the nose.

World ranked cruiserweight contender OLEKSANDR USYK will return to battle against South Africa’s JOHNNY “The Hurricane” MULLER in the 10-round main event on Saturday, August 29 at the Palace of Sports in Kiev, Ukraine. Sporting a perfect record of 7-0 with seven knockouts, the 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist will defend his WBO Inter-Continental Cruiserweight Title in the 10-round main event against Muller, 19-4-2 (13KO’s).

Oleksandr Usyk stops Daniel Bruwer in 7th round

uysk88By Jim Dower: Unbeaten cruiserweight prospect Oleksandr Usyk (5-0, 5 KOs) defeated South African Daniel Bruwer (24-6-1, 21 KOs) in the 7th round of a scheduled 12 round fight on Saturday night to win the interim WBO Inter-Continental cruiserweight title at the Arena Lviv Stadium, in Lviv, Ukraine.

In the 7th, Usyk knocked Bruwer down with a right hand. Bruwer stayed down flat on his face and the fight was halted at that point. Moments before the stoppage, Bruwer had dropped his hands and was challenging Usyk to engage with him.
