Mayweather Not Interested in Fighting Pacquiao Unless He Takes the Smaller Cut

Mayweather, 32, will be coming off a two-year retirement on September 19th against Juan Manuel Marquez, and isn’t interested in accepting a 50-50 cut for the fight with Pacquiao despite that figure being the one that Top Rank CEO Bob Arum wants.

There are some hurdles before this fight can be signed, but I believe these obstacles can be overcome to make one of the biggest fights in boxing history. The first of which is the Bob Arum issue: Arum wants Manny to fight Cotto because it benefits him most. He wants to resign Cotto, and he can help his chances by getting him a big fight. Besides, he will be the sole promoter of the fight. No matter who is victorious, Arum wins; both fighters are under his banner.

According to an article in the Grand Rapids Press, Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25 KOs) is interested in facing Pacquiao next. If this turns out to be true and not some silly rumor, then Mayweather Jr. would be stepping into a fight that would likely be as huge a fight as Pacquiao’s recent fight with Oscar De La Hoya last Saturday night.
