Purses: Mayweather $32 million, Guerrero $3 million

guerrero422By Chris Williams: In looking at the paychecks the fighters will be getting this Saturday night there’s no mistaking who the star is for this fight. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) will be getting a guaranteed $32 million, and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) will be receiving $3 million for their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The $3 million may not seem like a lot of money, but it’s by far the most money that Guerrero has ever received in a fight, and I’m sure he’s happy to get even that.

Without Mayweather, Guerrero would likely be fighting for less $1 million.

Can Robert Guerrero shock the world?

guerrero122By Mark Havey: Robert Guerrero is a humble family man. He lives in a close knit neighborhood and surrounds himself with a small group of trusted associates and relatives. Tomorrow he gets his dream fight against a man who is the complete opposite. Floyd Mayweather is ranked at the top of the pound 4 pound list and is the highest paid athlete in any sport.

He is the world’s premier counter puncher. A defensive genius who’s ability to elude punches far exceeds anyone current boxer.

Guerrero has shown optimism that has surprised me. Boxers are self publicist’s who talk well even when they know defeat is predestined.

Malignaggi: Guerrero will keep his composure against Mayweather when things go bad

guerrero22By Dan Ambrose: WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi gives Robert “The Ghost Guerrero a decent chance of beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. tomorrow night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Malignaggi likes the way that Guerrero doesn’t get flustered when his opponents make an adjustment on him and get the upper hand for a moment.

Malignaggi feels that Guerrero will be able keep mentally strong tomorrow night if things start to go badly for him at some point in the fight.

Angel Garcia says he wouldn’t stoop to the levels of Ruben Guerrero in trash talking Mayweather

Ruben Guerrero(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Angel Garcia, the father of WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia, says he wouldn’t step into the personal life of Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the way that Robert “The Ghost’ Guerrero’s father Ruben Guerrero has recently in calling Mayweather a “Woman beater” over and over again. Angel says he sticks to talking about boxing when he’s going after a fighter to trash talk.

Speaking with RingTV, Angel said “When I talk, I talk about boxing, like what you did in your career. That’s what I talk about. In haven’t seen what [Ruben Guerrero said about Mayweather], but that don’t have nothing to do with boxing. That’s his personal life…that ain’t got nothing to do with boxing.”

Canelo to attend Mayweather-Guerrero bout

canelo99By Dan Ambrose: Still hoping to get a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September, WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will be attending this Saturday’s fight between Mayweather Jr. and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Miguel Cotto will also be in attendance, and I imagine he might want to fight the winner of the Mayweather-Guerrero fight as well. I suspect that Cotto has a much better chance of fighting Mayweather than Canelo does.

Canelo weighed 172 lbs. for his fight last month against WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout in San Antonio, Texas, and he badly wants to fight the much smaller, 150 pound Mayweather Jr. in September, and Golden Boy Promotions also wants that fight to happen due to the huge money it would bring in for them.

Mayweather vs. Guerrero go at it this Saturday – Part 1

Mayweather and Guerrero(Photo credit: Esther Lin: By Tom Drury: By the time Floyd Mayweather steps into the ring on Saturday, May 4, in Las Vegas, Nevada, it will have been 364 days since he last boxed. There are two reasons for the enormous intrigue surrounding his reappearance, one of which is around 30 of those 364 days were spent in Las Vegas’ Clark County Detention Center on a domestic violence charge and the other.

This is Mayweather’s first bout under the contract of a history making TV deal.

Mayweather has a phenomenal contract with the Showtime Sports network. Floyd, of course, does not need the money. It will, however, serve to further furnish his lavish lifestyle and allow him to live in the extravagant manner one might expect of the man who can charge more for a nights work in his chosen profession than any other athlete in the world today, be they David Beckham, Lionel Messi, Tiger Woods or Kobe Bryant. It is why Floyd Mayweather is more commonly known as “Money”.

Prediction: Mayweather to make easy work of Guerrero

Robert Guerrero(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Onaps: Unbeaten Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) is once again the center of the boxing world this Saturday in his title defense against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In my opinion, “Money” will make easy work of “The Ghost.” Guerrero doesn’t possess the skill set to even compete with Mayweather. Floyd is faster, quicker, smarter, stronger and is light years ahead of Robert skill wise. So, if The Ghost can’t do it, who can? Here is my list of fighters today who Mayweather may be tested by:

Niavity at 30: Is Robert Guerrero really THAT sure of himself?

03(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Samuel Roy Junior: In all honesty, I really don’t buy the fact that Robert Guerrero thinks Floyd Mayweather Jr wants there to be a rematch clause included in the contract for their upcoming bout this Saturday night at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas. It’s as if he’s trying to convince himself. That’s right, its that simple.

Don’t get me wrong, Guerrero’s resume is nothing to be sniffed at, he’s a very accomplished boxer who’s worked his way to get to this point right. But lets look at the facts; Mayweather has, in somewhat most of the eyes of boxing enthusiasts and fans across the world, DOMINATED the sport for 17 years. He’s been considered and mentioned in the rankings of the top pound for pound fighters on the planet since the late 90’s.
