Beristain says Canelo should have pressured Mayweather more

canelo65By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Nacho Beristain thinks former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1.30 KO’s) should have gone all out by applying a ton of pressure on Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) last night in an effort to win the fight. Beristain thinks Canelo could have possibly scored a knockdown had he gone after Mayweather in an all out assault from the start of the fight.

Of course, fighting like that would have been difficult for Canelo given that he had to drain down 13 pounds to get to the 152 lb. catch-weight, and knows how much muscle weight Canelo took off during training camp to get to 165 lbs.

Mayweather could make $100 million for Canelo fight, says Ellerbe

floyd784332By Chris Williams: The Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez “The One” pay per view card has reportedly broken the all-time PPV record for the most money hauled in for a fight with $150 million and counting with 2.2 million PPV buys. There’s a chance that the card could still break the all-time PPV mark of 2.4 million PPV buys from the 2007 fight between Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya. If it breaks that record it’s possible that the fight will generate over $200 million.

Mayweather’s adviser Leonard Ellerbe is saying that Mayweather could end up making $100 million if the pay per view sales break 2.4 million. Mayweather is already set to get a guaranteed $41.5 million for the Canelo fight. But with the extra PPV sales above 2 million, he could wind up with an additional $59 million while Canelo could end up with a lot more than the $12 million that he was set to get.

Ross, the judge that scored the Floyd Mayweather Jr-Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight a 114-114 draw, has reportedly decided to take an indefinite leave of absence for her judging job, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal. Guerrero: If Mayweather fought me like he did Canelo it would have been a different fight

floyd#44By Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero saw last Saturday’s fight between former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) and Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) and he came away surprised that Mayweather Jr. had spent so much time standing directly in front of Canelo in that fight. Guerrero thinks that Mayweather spotted a weakness in Canelo’s game that make him decide to stand and trade.

Guerrero also said that if Mayweather had fought him like he did Canelo the outcome would have been different between them. Mayweather beat Guerrero by a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores 117-111, 117-111 and 117-111 last May in a one-sided fight.

Magic Johnson: Mayweather was so good against Canelo the fight was boring

By Dan Ambrose: Former NBA star Earvin “Magic” Johnson thinks last Saturday’s fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was such a one-sided fight that it ended up being a boring bout for him to watch. Mayweather won the fight by a 12 round majority decision after one of the judges came up with a strange 114-114 score. However, Canelo really only fought well enough to win the 12th round. The remainder of the rounds were one-sided enough to give them all to Mayweather.

Oscar’s blueprint for dummies

floyd784332By Van Dunn: Now that the much hyped Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight is over, and Mayweather Jr. has once again showed the boxing world that he is in a class above everyone else, we can all sit back and chuckle. Chuckle not at the fact that Mayweather totally outclassed the younger, stronger and immensely confident fighter in Alvarez, nor chuckle at how easy that Mayweather made this fight look, or even chuckle at the incompetency of the majority decision empowered by the 114-114 score of a renegade judge.

As I now sit back and review the fight in my head, I keep hearing that earth shattering and mind blowing decree uttered by the great and mighty Golden Boy himself……”I have the blueprint to beat Mayweather”. Now as much of a deep and profound proclamation this appears to be, I can’t help but laugh because Oscar’s blueprint has been proven to be nothing more than “Fools Gold”.

The Rabid Crowds

canelo7677by Jordan Capobianco: The rabid crowds liked it when Lucas Matthysse knocked people out. They wanted to see him knock more people out. They wanted to see him knock Danny Garcia out. They thought he could because he had knocked lots of people out before, and they were seduced by his ability to do it.

But then he didn’t knock out Danny Garcia.

And the rabid crowds remembered that Garcia was a masterful, undefeated champion. And they remembered that no fighter has ever been able to compensate for Garcia’s left hand. And they looked at Matthysse’s right eye and it was almost poetic. And seeing the poetry of the experience, some were less rabid.

Mayweather-Canelo aftermath

canelo994By Mr. Pennington: I am shocked, just days ago, many who are on this very site were writing articles of how P4P champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. would be dethroned by Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Some even went as far to say that Mayweather Jr. would be knocked out by Alvarez. Predictions are fun, and with sport, it comes with the territory. I don’t hold anyone accountable for making a prediction and being wrong, that doesn’t disqualify you being a knowledgeable fan.

We seen Teddy Atlas who I have always held in high regard as a boxing analyst make a wrong prediction this past weekend, and I completely understand the premise in which he made his prediction. Predictions are what makes fight night so fun, the back and forth between fans, the hope of the guy your pulling for being victorious, I see nothing wrong with that. The bone I have to pick happens to be with those who refuse to give credit where it’s due, and continue to make excuses.

Mayweather: Canelo will carry the torch; he can be a legend

canelo7657By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) was being very gracious with former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) after his one-sided 12 round majority decision over the red-headed fighter last Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Despite having clowned Canelo for 12 rounds, Mayweather was busy trying to remake Canelo’s image after the fight by saying that the 23-year-old will wind up being a boxing legend before his career is over.

Mayweather Jr. said “I want to commend this young, strong lion because he will carry the torch…Canelo has everything it takes to be a legend in the sport…He threw a hell of a thigh shot. It was a good shot. I’m walking with a limp right now.”
