(Photo Credit: Alex Menendez – HoganPhotos/Golden Boy Promotions) By Tim Fletcher: WBA interim heavyweight champion Luis Ortiz (24-0, 21 KOs) put on quite the show last night in stopping a very good fighter in Bryant Jennings (19-2, 10 KOs) in the seventh round of their contest on HBO. Jennings was not only put on the canvas for the first time in his pro career, but also knocked out for the first time in his career as well.

As far as punch stats go, they were pretty even in terms of the punches landed. The main difference between the two fighters was the amount of power behind Ortiz’s punches compared to Jennings. The 36-year-old Ortiz was landing with a lot more power on his shots, and not surprisingly, he was the one who was doing the most damage of the two.

(Photo Credit: Alex Menendez – HoganPhotos/Golden Boy Promotions) By Jim Dower: Interim WBA heavyweight champion Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz (24-0, 31 KOs) stopped a game #5 WBA former world title challenger Bryant Jennings (19-2, 10 KOs) in the 7th round to stay unbeaten in a fight televised by HBO Championship Boxing at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York.

Ortiz knocked Jennings down with a left uppercut in the 7th. Ortiz punished Jennings with several more shots after he got back to his feet that sent Jennings to the ropes. The referee then halted the fight at 2:41 of the round.

By Dan Ambrose: Interim WBA heavyweight champion Luis Ortiz (23-0, 20 KOs) weighed in at a slightly heavy 239 pounds for his title defense on Saturday night against challenger Bryant Jennings (19-1, 10 KOs) for their scheduled 12 round fight on HBO After Dark from the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, in Verona, New York.

Jennings weighted in at 229.5lbs, a weight that is normal for him. The 6’4” Ortiz weighed 237lbs for his last fight against Matias Ariel Vidondo last October, and was able to fight effectively in that fight.

The 31-year-old Jennings has watched Ortiz’s past fights as a pro, and sees him as having both confidence and chin issues that he plans on exploiting. Jennings thinks the 6’4” Ortiz doesn’t like to get hit, and will struggle when he starts getting nailed by him on Saturday.

By Allan Fox: Bryant Jennings (19-1, 10 KOs) will be facing unbeaten WBA World interim heavyweight champion Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz (23-0, 20 KOs) this Saturday night on December 19th on HBO Championship Boxing from the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York.

This fight could have a surprise ending no matter which of these two fighters lose. Jennings has looked very good since he turned pro five years ago in 2010. His only loss occurred at the hands of former IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko last May.

That wasn’t much of a loss for Jennings because Wladimir did little more than jab and move around the ring all night long to try and avoid the punches by the aggressor Jennings.
