By Jim Dower: Premier Boxing Champions on Bounce TV brought in over 1.5 million viewers to see IBF World lightweight champion Robert Easter Jr. (19-0, 14 KOs) successfully defend his IBF title in beating Luis Cruz (22-5-1, 16 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision from the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio.

The ratings for the fight were through the roof, and quite unexpected to some, as Easter Jr. is not a huge star as of yet with the casual boxing fans in the U.S. Easter Jr. fought like a star with him knocking down Cruz three times in fight in winning an easy 12 round decision.
PBC is smart to have their top fighters like the 26-year-old Easter Jr. have his fights televised on free television like Bounce TV.

By Dan Ambrose: IBF World lightweight champion Robert Easter Jr. (19-0, 14 KOs) put on a punching display last Friday night in beating contender Luis Cruz (22-5-1, 16 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio. Easter Jr. gave the 31-year-old Cruz a methodical beating in knocking him down twice and winning by the scores 119-106 118-107 ad 117-108.

After the fight, Easter Jr. said that he has WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs) and WBO champion Terry Flanagan on his hit list. Easter Jr. says he wants all the superstars in the lightweight division. There are really no superstars in the division other than Mikey. Flanagan and WBA champion Jorge Linares are both flawed champions that have a lot of holes in their games. You can’t call Flanagan and Linares superstars.

The judges scored the fight 117-108, 119-106, and 118-107.

Cruz will be getting $40,000 for his title challenge against Easter. It’s considerably less, but it’s not all that unexpected given that Cruz was picked as a voluntary challenger from the bottom of the International Boxing Federation’s rankings.

Cruz weighed in at 134 ½ pounds.

This is going to be a good fight. Easter Jr. is one of the biggest punchers in the 135 pound division right now, and he’s facing a pure slugger in 31-year-old Cruz, who doesn’t know how to take a backwards step. Someone is going to get knocked out in this fight.

Easter and Cruz will both be looking to KO each other on Friday night. It should be exciting for the fans.

Easter is a heavy favorite to win the fight, but anything possible in a fight involving Cruz. Easter Jr. is one of the hardest punchers in the lightweight division today. Other than his grueling fight against Richard Commey, Easter still hasn’t faced a great deal of top fighters in the 135lb division. However, Easter is highly skilled with a great deal of boxing ability and size for the division.

The fight card starts at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

Easter captured the vacant IBF World lightweight title on September 9 last year in beating Richard Commey by a 12 round split decision. Easter was knocked down by the big hitting Commey in round.
