By Jeff Aranow: IBO/WBA junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara’s mismatch against Yuri Foreman (34-3, 0 KOs) last Friday night brought in good ratings on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike. Lara (24-2-2, 14 KOs) won the fight by a 4th round knockout over the 36-year-old Foreman. Foreman was also down in round 3 of their fight at the Hialeah Park Racing & Casino in Hialeah, Florida.

The match brought in an average of 547,000 viewers with a high of 707,000 on Spike TV. Lara ended the fight with an uppercut that put Foreman down for the count. Surprisingly, the Lara-Foreman fight pulled in more viewers than the Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergio Mora rematch fight had brought in. That was a mismatch too.

By Eric Baldwin: Fresh off his 4th round KO win over Yuri Foreman (34-3, 10 KOs) last Friday night, WBA super welterweight champion Erislandy Lara (24-2-2, 14 KOs) made it clear that he wants to fight Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and/or Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Lara is ready to take those big fights.

Lara, 33, didn’t say if he’s going to vacate his WBA title to go up in weight and pursue those fighters or not. That would be the first move for Lara if he wanted to let the boxers know that he’s serious about wanting to fight them.

By Jim Dower: IBO/WBA Super World junior middleweight champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara (24-2-2, 14 KOs) was too good for former WBA 154lb champion Yuri Foreman (34-4, 10 KOs) in stopping him in the 4th round on Friday night to retain his titles at the Hialeah Park & Racing Casino in Hialeah, Florida.

Lara knocked Foreman down with a right jab followed by a left uppercut to the chin in the 4th. It was a perect left uppercut to the chin of Foreman. It was a really nice shot from Lara, who isn’t known for his punching power.

By Jeff Aranow: Former WBA 154lb champion Yuri Foreman (34-2, 10 KOs) has never been known as a puncher during his career, but he says he’s going to show off his power against WBA Super World junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (23-2-2, 13 KOs) in their fight on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike this Friday night at the Hialeah Park Racing and Casino in Miami, Florida.

Foreman has knocked out 2 out of his last 3 opponents in his comeback, but the quality of his opposition has been less than world class.

By Jeff Aranow: Spike will be showing Erislandy Lara (23-2-2, 13 KOs) defending his WBA junior middleweight title tonight against Yuri Foreman (34-2, 10 KOs) in what will likely be a mismatch at the Hialeah Park Raching & Casino in Hialeah, Florida. The fight card starts at 9:00 p.m. Lara has gone one step further with usual mismatches by facing the 36-year-old Foreman as his opponent.

Lara is levels above Foreman, who hasn’t been a factor in the sport for a number of years since losing his WBA 154lb title to Miguel Cotto in 2010. Foreman was never a great fighter to begin with, but he’s very likely lost whatever boxing skills that he had due to age and years of very little activity on his part.

Lara has been training weeks for this fight, and he’s really looking forward to facing the 36-year-old Foreman, who he has a lot of respect for as a former world champion. Foreman was a world champion in 2010. He lost his title to Miguel Cotto in getting beaten by a 9th round TKO.

Lara should target Golovkin after Foreman fight

By Dan Ambrose: WBA junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (23-2-2, 13 KOs) has a match scheduled this Friday against a name from the past in Yuri Foreman (34-2, 10 KOs) at Hialeah Park in Hialeah, Florida on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike. Lara has talked a lot in the past about wanting to fight IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.

With Lara being the WBA champion, he can easily make a request to the WBA to have him positioned at No.1 in the WBA’s 160lb rankings. The WBA would likely do this just as the World Boxing Organization recently elevated WBO 154lb champion Saul Canelo Alvarez to the No.1 contender for WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders.

Erislandy Lara needs to impress against Yuri Foreman

Image: Erislandy Lara needs to impress against Yuri Foreman

By Eric Baldwin: IBO/WBA Super World junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (23-2-2, 13 KOs) has put himself in the position where he absolutely needs to look good this Friday night in his fight against Yuri Foreman (34-2, 10 KOs) at Hialeah Park in Hialeah, Florida. It’s another mediocre opponent for Lara to fight, and it’s pretty disappointing to see for a lot of boxing fans. Lara wants the big fights against top names, but he’s not good opposition to create a name for himself unfortunately.

They were hoping that Lara would be a good champion that fought the best. Instead, they’ve seen Lara milk his WBA title steadily since picking it up three years ago in 2014. Lara’s last title defense against the 36-year-old Foreman will be televised on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike.

Lara wants to KO Foreman

By Jeff Aranow: WBA Super World junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (23-2-2, 13 KOs) plans on leaving the three judges with no say so in the outcome of his fight Yuri Foreman (34-2, 10 KOs) on January 13 on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike from the Hialeah Park in Hialeah, Florida.

Having lost twice in the past in controversial decisions to Paul Williams and Saul Canelo Alvarez, Lara plans on making sure the judges cannot control his fate for his fight against the 36-year-old Foreman. The good news for the 33-year-old Lara is Foreman has no punching power to speak of, so it shouldn’t be a risky thing for him to stand in the pocket and shoot for the knockout.
