Tyson Fury: I’ll retire after the Klitschko fight

fury666By Scott Gilfoid: Well, I knew it was coming. After holding down the IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight titles for all of five months, Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) is saying he wants to retire after his July 9 rematch against Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs).

Fury says he’s lost the motivation and is sick of the sport. I knew this was going to happen as soon as he won those titles last November. With the mess of money that Fury won in that fight, and the big money he’s going to get in the rematch against Klitschko, it has taken his ambition from Fury. I see this kind of thing all the time.

When a fighter loses the need to keep fighting after making a bundle of money, the distractions of suddenly having a life of leisure sends them into retirement.

Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury 2 on July 9 in Manchester, UK

fury8912By Scott Gilfoid: The long awaited rematch between the aging 40-year-old Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) and IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) will be taking place on July 9 in Manchester, UK, according to Fury’s trainer Peter Fury.

The fight is expected to be announced. The negotiations for the rematch took forever, and there were thoughts that Fury might move on to fight the winner of the Anthony Joshua vs. Charles Martin clash. Luckily for the fans, the Klitschko-Fury rematch will be taking place.
Klitschko will be trying to avenge his 12 round decision loss to Fury from last November.

That was a close fight with neither fighter doing much of anything. Wladimir looked too scared and confused to throw punches, whereas Fury was just ineffective on offense. Fury’s slapping shots were easily picked off by the more skilled Wladimir.

Klitschko’s management hoping Fury fight can happen in summer

fury545By Jeff Aranow: The rematch between IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko still does not have a date despite months of negotiations between the management for the two fighters. Currently, July 9 is the working date that they’re trying to get the fight to take place. However, with the 6’9” Fury recently re-injuring his back while helping his cousin Hughie Fury out, it remains to be seen whether the Fury-Klitschko fight can still take place in July.

The fight could wind up being pushed back to Autumn between September to December. This would mean that the two giant heavyweights could be out of the ring for as much as an entire year before they eventually face each other. Fury beat Wladimir by a 12 round decision last November in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Ever since then, there’s been a lot of taking back and forth between the two fighters’ management about where the fight should take place and when. As of now, the Klitschko vs. Fury 2 fight is expected to take place in a football stadium in the UK.

Fury suffers back injury, says Klitschko fight still happening

fury8912By Scott Gilfoid: IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) is saying he aggravated an old back injury last weened while helping out his cousin Hughie Fury. Fury’s lower back is having problems with spasms. Fury doesn’t expect the injury to prevent him from facing former world champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) in a rematch on July 9.

The fight date still isn’t official, and Fury is starting to lose patience with the 40-year-old Ukrainian. Fury says he might move on if the fight isn’t agreed on soon. It’s unclear whether Fury can actually walk away from the fight, however, as there was a rematch clause in his contract with Klitschko last year for their November fight.

Wladimir has to get inside against Fury, says Briggs

wladimir100By Jeff Aranow: Contender Shannon Briggs thinks former world champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) is going to need to change the way he fights before he faces IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) in a rematch this year.

Briggs says that Wladimir will get the same results as last time if he isn’t aggressive against the 6’9” Fury in the rematch. Briggs’ advice is for Wladimir to try to get inside on Fury so that he can land his shots.

It wasn’t working for Wladimir last November when he was trying to fight the taller and longer-armed Fury by staying on the outside and trying to jab with him. Fury was able to get out of the way of most of Wladimir’s pawing jabs.

Klitschko-Fury 2 possible for 6/4

wladimir400By Scott Gilfoid: Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) and IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs0 are in negotiations for a possible June 4th date in Austria at the beautiful 32,000 seat Klagenfurt’s Woerthersee Stadium. The venue hasn’t been confirmed yet, but hopefully Fury and his team don’t drag their feet over the potential venue. If Fury tries to hold out to get the fight staged in the UK, it could wind up hurting them if he can’t sellout any of the football stadiums.

Klitschko and Fury have been in negotiations for some time, and it’s unbelievable that they still haven’t nailed down a date and venue for their rematch. It’s kind of sad really. Both fighters will burn have the year and likely end up with just two fights taking place this year.

Heck, if they negotiate like this for their next fights, it wouldn’t be surprising if they only have one fight to show for 2016.

Klitschko says rematch with Tyson Fury still happening

klitschko#4By Scott Gilfoid: Former world champion Wladimir Klitschko sent out a tweet earlier today letting his boxing fans know that he still intends on facing Tyson Fury in a rematch.

The negotiations are still taking place for the fight. Wladimir, who will be turning 40-years-old later this month on March 25, wants to avenge his loss to Fury from last November. Wladimir threw almost no punches in the fight in losing a close 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 115-112, 116-111, and 115-112.

Tyson Fury vs. Wladimir Klitschko possible for Manchester, UK

fury444By Scott Gilfoid: It’s looking like the Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury rematch could take place in the UK in Manchester, according to the Manchester Evening News. It’s not exactly a great location for the fight if you’re Wladimir, because Fury still hasn’t proven that he can fill a stadium. If Wladimir agrees to fight Fury in the UK, they could be fighting in front of a near empty stadium or arena. Wladimir, 39, will be making a huge mistake if he agrees to fight Fury in the UK.

If Fury and Klitschko want to ensure they get the most revenue, then they need to fight in Germany. That is where Klitschko fights all the time, and he fills stadiums over there. I am talking about huge 50,000 seat stadiums.

If a 50K seat stadium can’t make more money than a 20,000 seat stadium in the UK, then Wladimir needs to raise the prices so that they can turn a bigger profit.

Tyson Fury will be facing Wladimir Klitschko next, says Hennessy

fury8912By Scott Gilfoid: Mick Hennessy, the promoter for IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, says he will indeed be facing former unified world champion Wladimir Klitschko in his next fight. The rematch clause in their contract from last November is still place and they will definitely be facing each other in their next fight.

The 27-year-old Fury had made things confusing recently by telling the media that he didn’t know who he’ll be facing next. By listening to Fury, one could get the impression that Fury would be facing almost anyone rather than Wladimir, who will be turning a ripe 40-years-old this month.

Obviously, Hennessy needs to get on the same page as the 6’9” Fury and let him know what’s happening so that he’s not flapping his gums to the media acting unsure of himself when it comes to his next opponent.
