Peter may have been too nice to beat Wladimir

Image: Peter may have been too nice to beat WladimirBy Dave Lahr: Samuel Peter could have beaten IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko last Saturday night. All Peter had to do was get evil with Wladimir every time the big Ukrainian grabbed him in one of his many clinches that he did every round. Peter had like 10 chances per round to knock Wladimir out each time he dove in and clinched the Nigerian slugger.

Wladimir Klitschko, boring or just that good vs. Samuel Peter

Image: Wladimir Klitschko, boring or just that good vs. Samuel PeterBy Matt Muranaka: The Klitschko brothers are often times thought of in the world of boxing, as simply boring. With most of American fight fans not really showing any real support beyond the two Ukrainian brothers that have a combined: 100 fights, 95 wins, 5 losses, and 87 ko’s. This is the reason why they are mega superstars in Germany, and why Klitschko (55-3,49KO’s ) vs Peters (34-4, 27KO’s) II had around 40,000 people in attendance.

Klitschko defeats Peter but looks as boring as usual

Image: Klitschko defeats Peter but looks as boring as usualBy William Mackay: IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) probably didn’t do anything in his performance last Saturday night to change the minds of HBO executives to start showing Klitschko’s fights any time soon. Wladimir looked tentative for the most part in beating Samuel Peter (34-4, 27 KO’s) by a 10th round TKO. Klitschko mostly threw jabs and rarely threw any combinations in the fight. His offense was essentially limited to one punch at a time – either a left hook, jab or a right hand. Even when Peter’s right eye was nearly closed late in the fight, Wladimir still only threw one shot at a time and looked as if he was afraid of getting countered by the painfully slow Nigerian.

Steward had to tell Wladimir to stop clinching Peter

Image: Steward had to tell Wladimir to stop clinching PeterBy Dave Lahr: In looking at last Saturday’s bout between IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and challenger Samuel Peter, I couldn’t help but notice that Wladimir’s trainer Emanuel Steward was practically begging Wladimir to stop clinching Peter after the 9th round. It’s too bad that Steward had to wait so long to get on Wladimir’s case, because Wladimir had been clinching after almost every punch since first round of the fight.

Wladimir Klitschko stops Samuel Peter in 10th round

Image: Wladimir Klitschko stops Samuel Peter in 10th roundBy Jim Dower: IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) did what he had to do to take Nigerian heavyweight Samuel Peter (34-4, 27 KO’s) out in the 10th round last Saturday night at the Commerzbank-Arena, in Frankfurt, Germany. With the 30-year-old Peter’s right eye nearly closed from the punishment he had absorbed in the fight, Wladimir unloaded with a blizzard of punches to put Peter down in the 10th round. Referee Roberto Byrd then stepped in and halted the bout at 1:22 of the 10th round.

Klitschko clinches his way to victory over Peter

Image: Klitschko clinches his way to victory over PeterBy Dave Lahr: Just as I expected, IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) was able to clinch as often as he pleased on Saturday night in defeating former World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Samuel Peter (34-4, 27 KO’s) by a 10th round TKO while fighting in front of a large pro-Klitschko German crowd at the Commerzbank-Arena, Frankfurt, Hessen, Germany. Averaging around 10 clinches per round, Wladimir did a beautiful job of keeping Peter tied up and unable to throw his massive power shots. I haven’t seen clinching display like this since Wladimir’s first victory over Peter give years ago. That ugly display of clinching was a life saver for Wladimir in this fight.

The Klitschko Division

Image: The Klitschko DivisionBy Mark Hepplestall: There are currently 3 recognized world champions in the heavyweight division, who are Vitali Klitschko (WBC), Wladimir Klitschko (IBO, WBO and IBF) and David Haye (WBA). These three world champions are leagues above the current contenders and hot prospects, this can be seen by looking at the worlds heavyweight rankings which shows that the majority with the exception of Tomasz Adamek have challenged for a world title and lost miserably to either Wladimir Klitschko or Vitali Klitschko, two of the three boxers that David Haye has fought since moving up to heavyweight have now retired.

Klitschko stops Peter!

Image: Klitschko stops Peter!By Tom Hatheway: Ring Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko dominated Sam Peter via 10th round TKO in a rematch from 2005. He also defended his IBF, IBO, and WBO titles.

The bout was basically a mismatch; with the champ in control all of the way. In the end Peter’s eyes were heavily swollen, and is now 0-3 against the brothers from Ukraine. The score here was 90-81. Klitschko, 246 is now 55-3 (49), while Peter, 241 drops to 34-4 (27).

Who is up next this year for Wladimir, 34? Possibly Adamek or Valuev. They are the only possible choices unless he wants to wait until next year for Haye or Povetkin who have bouts already lined up for this fall.

Peter: “I hope he [Wladimir] comes to fight and not wrestle”

Image: Peter: “I hope he [Wladimir] comes to fight and not wrestle”Photo credit: KMG/Dmitriy Abramov – By Dave Lahr: The last time Samuel Peter (34-3, 27 KO’s) fought Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KO’s), the Ukrainian fighter was hugging him pretty much all night long at every chance he could get to prevent Peter from throwing his power house punches. It only partially worked, as Peter was still able to pry Wladimir off of him long enough to knock him down three times in the fight. This time, Peter is really hoping that Wladimir, now the IBF/WBO heavyweight champion, doesn’t choose to clinch and wrestle him all night long like last time.
