The pair fought at the ESPRIT arena in Dusseldorf, Germany on Saturday night and there were no surprises.

By Eric Thomaas: 39-year-old Jean Marc Mormeck (36-5, 22 KO’s seemed frozen by the moment tonight in facing IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (57-3, 50 KO’s) in front of 50,000 fans in the ESPRIT arena, Düsseldorf, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Mormeck never did get his offense un-tracked in losing by a 4th round TKO defeat in one of the worst mismatches for Wladimir since his 2nd round TKO win over Ray Austin in March 2007.

Wladimir knocked Mormeck down times in the fight, once in the 2nd and the final time in the 4th. The fight was halted in the 4th when Wladimir connected with a big left-right combination that put Mormeck down for the count.

After all that praise, little of it has stuck with the boxing public unfortunately for Wladimir, as they still see this fight as a huge mismatch. But it does sort of put Mormeck in a situation where there is some pressure on him now to try and live up to all the compliments that Wladimir has poured over his head.

I’m sure he likely doesn’t care, as he’ll do well regardless in terms of making a lot of money for the fight.

Mormeck would probably be the last one that you would pick out to defeat a fighter like Wladimir, but Mormeck has a chance because he’s good power and Wladimir is very susceptible to getting hurt when hit hard. Mormeck has a punchers’ chance of winning this fight if he can land his big shots.

Wladimir, 6’6″, may need to throw uppercuts because the 5’11” Mormeck will likely crowd him all night long and Wladimir will need a short uppercut to catch Mormeck on the way in.
