By Dan Ambrose: World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan’s one-sided 12 round unanimous decision win over Andriy Kotelnik last year is now looking more and more impressive after Kotelnik fought IBF/WBC junior welterweight champion Devon Alexander to a standstill on Saturday night at the Scottrade Center, in Saint Louis, Missouri. Alexander was out-landed by Kotelnik and landed the harder shots. However, Alexander threw more punches, but still ended up landing 20+ less shots compared to Kotelnik.

This was, after all, a handpicked opponent that Khan went after and not a dangerous puncher.

By Jim Dower: 2004 Olympic silver medalist Amir Khan (21-1, 15 KO’s) easily defeated World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik (31-3-1, 13 KO’s) by a 12-round unanimous decision tonight to grab Kotelnik’s title at the M.E.N. Arena, in Manchester. The final judges’ scores were 120-108, 118-111 and 118-111. Kotelnik, 31, never really was competitive in the fight. Khan, 22, had far too much speed and was able to get the better of him in most of the exchanges in the fight. Khan stayed on the move and easily picked off the slower Kotelnik, who seemed at a loss what to do against the constantly moving Khan.

At today’s weigh-in for the WBA light welterweight clash between champion Andriy Kotelnik and British challenger Amir Khan, the Ukrainian Kotelnik came in right at the light welterweight limit of 140. For his part, Khan came in just under the limit at 139.6. The fight will take place at the M.E.N. Arena, Manchester, England.
