Tyson Fury talks Wilder and Khan-Diaz

deontay11By Scott Gilfoid Heavyweight Tyson Fury says if the unbeaten American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) wants to fight him then he’s going to have go get in line behind the other heavyweight fights he’s got planned.

Fury saw Amir Khan’s fight with Julio Diaz last night, and he came away thinking that Diaz should have been given the decision. I agree with Fury in that. Diaz did more than enough to win a close decision given the knockdown and the fact that he won three out of the last four rounds.

Khan might as well be back with Freddie Roach

khan111By Scott Gilfoid: After seeing how badly Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) struggled to defeat the non-top 15 ranked Julio Diaz (40-8, 29 KO’s) last night in his controversial 12 round unanimous decision win in Sheffield, Khan might as well be back with his old trainer Freddie Roach because his new trainer Virgil Hunter doesn’t seem to be bringing any positive changes in Khan’s game as far as I can tell.

Khan was hurt at least five times in the fight last night and dropped in the 4th. The fact that Khan was getting hurt over and over again by a fighter like Diaz tells me that Khan might as well go back to Freddie Roach at the Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles because I think he was a better fighter for Roach than he is with Hunter.

Khan beats Diaz & Martinez decisions Murray in unpopular decisions

martinez66A lot has been said over the years about home decisions and that was yet again the case tonight, one in Sheffield, England and the other in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Both of the fights were competitive and top class boxing was on display but surely it’s time that these dodgy decisions have to be cut from the sport before they kill it.

First up in the evening was what was meant to be a routine tune-up fight for Amir “King” Khan against the well respected but perhaps getting on a bit in his career, Julio Diaz. Khan came out and for the first couple of rounds demonstrated his blistering hand-speed and solid footwork but as the fight went on much like the Khan v Garcia fight of last year Diaz found his range and began to tag Khan.

Khan shows the heart of a lion in beating Diaz

khan#3By Jamil Akram: Amir “King” Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) showed a heart of a lion and a ton of courage in beating Julio Diaz (40-8-1, 29 KOs’) tonight by a 12 round unanimous decision. Khan was knocked down in the 4th round, but he survived and went on to get the victory. The performance was a edgy but very gripping from the first bell to the last.

Khan was committed and dedicated which is the reason he survived win against a  tough Mexican Julio Diaz who was truly magnificent.

Listening to the corner in between rounds, I think Khan had underestimated Diaz’s power. King Khan proved everyone and himself that after getting knocked down in the 4th round and getting back up. He still managed to mentally regroup and come back from the knockdown.

Khan’s next fight in December will be for a world title, says Schaefer

khan#1By William Mackay: Golden Boy promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says Amir Khan’s next fight in December will be for a world title against the winner of Golden Boy’s 140 lb. tournament. Khan will be facing one of the following fighters: Zab Judah, Danny Garcia, Lamont Peterson or Lucas Matthysse.

The chances are high that Khan will be facing Garcia or Matthysse. That’s bad news for Khan because he looked positively awful tonight in barely beating welterweight Julio Diaz (40-8-1, 29 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision in their catch-weight fight at 143 pounds at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, UK.

Khan survives knockdown to defeat Diaz

khan#2By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (28-3, 18 KO’s) had to go life and death tonight to defeat Julio Diaz (40-8-1, 29 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision. The final judges’ scores were 114-113, 115-113, 115-112. Khan was knocked down in the 4th round from a big left hook from Diaz. Khan was later staggered in rounds 8, 9, 10 and 11 by big shots from Diaz.

Khan looked like a washed up fighter tonight, no better than Diaz, who is way past his prime. I had Diaz winning a close decision by getting the better of Khan in the 3rd, 4th [the round Diaz knocked down Khan down with a left hook], 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th. Khan clearly won rounds 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 and 12. However, with the knockdown in the 4th, Diaz should have been given the decision. I couldn’t give Khan rounds where he was staggered, but it looks as if that’s what some of these judges did tonight.

Julio Diaz looking to smash Khan tonight

khan222By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan’s career is on the brink of failure with him having lost two out of his last three fights. He admits it himself that he can’t afford to lose tonight against Julio Diaz (40-7-1, 29 KO’s) in their catch-weight fight at 143 pounds in the UK.

With Golden Boy Promotions matching Khan against the 2nd tier fighter Julio Diaz tonight, it’s pretty much curtains for Khan if he loses this fight. I mean, they’ve dipped down in the rankings to the 2nd tier just to find someone that they think Khan can beat that is recognizable to the older boxing fans who remember Diaz many years ago. But if Khan can’t even beat this guy then he really needs to pack it in and look for another line of work because that’ll be a clear sign that Khan doesn’t have a place at the top.

Khan decisions Diaz; Wilder destroys Harrison

wilder04By Eric Thomas: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) dodged a bullet tonight in barely scraping by with a close 12 round unanimous decision over Julio Diaz (40-8-1, 29 KO’s) at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, England.

Khan was constantly in trouble from the hard punches from Diaz, and he got by on sheer luck in the last half of the fight. Khan was hurt by big shots from Diaz and had to hold onto him in rounds 9, 10 and 11.

Warren: Khan has no margin for error against Diaz

khan6By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan’s former promoter Frank Warren believes that Khan has no margin of error for his fight tomorrow night against Julio Diaz (40-7-1, 29 KO’s) in Sheffield. While Warren expects Khan to win this fight by knockout, he feels that Khan can’t afford to make any mistakes because it could hurt his career potentially if he gets knocked out and takes yet another crushing defeat.

Khan goes into this fight having lost two out of his last three fights and that kind of tells you how bad things are going for him right now. Things are so bad that his promoters at Golden Boy still aren’t willing to put him in with an actual contender. Diaz isn’t ranked in the top 15 and neither was Khan’s previous opponent lightweight Carlos Molina.

Julio Diaz: I’m worried about being robbed against Khan

YouTube video
By Scott Gilfoid: Former two-time IBF lightweight champion Julio Diaz (40-7-1, 29 KO’s) figures he may likely need a knockout on Saturday night over Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) to keep from getting jobbed by the judges in their fight in Sheffield, UK.

Diaz is Mexican and he’s fighting Khan in his home country of Britain where he’s a huge star for the Brits. They love the guy.
