Jermall Charlo wants Canelo Alvarez for unification fight

By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten IBF World junior middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (25-0, 19 KOs) is targeting WBO 154lb champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for his strap after beating arguably the second best fighter in the division last Saturday night in Julian “J-Rock” Williams (22-1-1, 14 KOs) by a 5th round knockout at the USC Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California.

I rate Jermall Charlo above Canelo in the talent department, and I think he not only beats the Mexican star, but knocks him out in the process. I rate Jermall Charlo as a better fighter than Canelo in every department – speed, power, size, talent, punch assortment. The magical question is will Golden Boy Promotions allow their cash cow Canelo to fight Jermall Charlo? My guess is no. I don’t think Golden Boy will let Canelo get anywhere near a huge puncher like Jermall. What happened to Julian Williams last Saturday night could have easily been the same fate for Canelo if he’d been inside the ring with him. Its not a good match-up for Canelo. We just saw how Canelo struggled in losing 5 of 6 rounds against Amir Khan and look euqally bad against Liam Smith. Just imagine what Jermall would do to Canelo

By Eric Baldwin: WBA World featherweight champion Jesus Andres Cuellar (28-1, 21 KOs) successfully weighed in at 124lbs at today’s weigh-in for his title defense this Saturday night against Abner Mares (29-2-1, 15 KOs) for their fight on Showtime Championship Boxing at the USC Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California.

Premier Boxing Champions is promoting the show. Mares weighed in at 126lbs. This is going to be a really tough fight for the 31-year-old Mares, because he’s been out of the ring for over a year since his loss to Leo Santa Cruz in August 2015. That was a grueling fight that saw Mares worn down and beaten by a 12 round majority decision by the scores 114-114, 117-111 and 117-111.

By Eric Baldwin: IBF World junior middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (24-0, 18 KOs) plans on doing a job on unbeaten top challenger Julian “J-Rock” Williams (22-0-1, 14 KOs) in their fight this Saturday night on Showtime from the USC Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.

Jermall Charlo vs. Julian Williams possible for December

By Allan Fox: Unbeaten IBF junior middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (24-0, 18 KOs) and his undefeated #1 IBF challenger Julian “J-Rock” Williams (22-0-1, 14 KOs) could be facing each other in December due to the fight being pushed back because of an eye problem for the young 26-year-old Charlo, according to Ring TV. They had previously been looking to face each other in October, but the eye injury will require that the fight get pushed back two months to December. Hopefully, there won’t be any issues that will extend it even further.

Charlo might be better off giving up his International Boxing Federation 154lb title and moving up in weight to middleweight, because I think he needs to move up at this point in his career.
