Judah vs. Garcia: Zab will have to get Danny’s respect early or else

judah433By Allan Fox: 35-year-old Zab Judah is considered a big underdog in his fight next month against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

It’s not that Judah has been getting beaten a lot lately that he’s an underdog in this fight, it’s the fact that he hasn’t beaten anyone good for ages and also how poor he looked in getting blasted out by Amir Khan last year in a 5th round knockout loss.

Judah is going to have to land something big early in the fight to keep Garcia from walking him down and bludgeoning him into submission with his left hooks. Garcia has a good left hook and he’ll be looking to use it a lot against Judah if he’s not met with any resistance early in the fight.

Will Judah’s speed and experience be enough to beat Danny Garcia?

judah33By Allan Fox: A lot of boxing fans are writing off 35-year-old Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) as having no chance against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) in their fight on February 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. However, Judah will have a big speed and experience against over Garcia in this fight, and that might be enough for him to shock the world and pull off an upset.

Judah’s speed advantage is going to be substantial in this fight. He’s not just a little faster than Garcia, he’s a lot faster. Judah’s speed isn’t at the level of Amir Khan, but it’s close enough to cause Garcia some problems.

Judah vs. Garcia: Was Zab selected for Danny mainly as a marketing gimmick?

judah45334By Dan Ambrose: It’s really difficult to take seriously the upcoming February 9th fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) and 35-year-old Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s). It seems like the only reason Judah was picked for this fight was as a marketing gimmick because he’s well known to casual fans, and he’s popular in the Brooklyn, New York area, which is where the fight will be staged.

That’s pretty much the only reason I can see why Judah was given the fight by Golden Boy Promotions, that and because he’s arguably much less of a threat than the guy Garcia should be fighting right now interim WBC light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse.

Judah: Danny Garcia’s father is going to have to pick him up inside the ring

Zab Judah addresses media(Photo credit: Showtime/Esther Lin) By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) likes to remind boxing fans that he has more knockouts than his next opponent WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) has fights. Judah and Garcia will be fighting next month on February 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Judah is right about him having more knockout than the young 24-year-old Garcia has fights. However, Judah is 35-years-old and the fact that he has a lot of knockouts on his resume that stretch out 17 years is meaningless. 35 is old for a fighter and this is a sport where you don’t want to get old because it can be dangerous. A lot of Judah’s knockouts have come against less than spectacular opposition.

Judah vs. Garcia: Zab has to raise his game to a higher level to win

Angel Garcia argues with Zab Judah(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: #15 WBC Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) has been given a golden opportunity by Golden Boy Promotions to fight their champion WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) on February 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Judah hasn’t done much to deserve this tile shot and seems to have gotten the fight based on his resume of past fights from many yesterday’s ago. Judah is no longer fighting at the level that would warrant him getting a title shot and he’s pretty heading for a knockout loss in this fight unless he can take his game back to where he was 12 years ago when he was #2 light welterweight in boxing behind Kostya Tszyu.

Judah vs. Garcia: Boxing fans are going to wonder why Golden Boy made this mismatch by the end of it

1214By Dan Ambrose: It’s interesting to see all the casual boxing fans chiming in on their thoughts about the February 9th fight between WBC/WBA light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) and 35-year-old former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The casual boxing fans are giving Judah a great chance of beating the 24-year-old Garcia.

They actually believe that Judah is going to school Garcia, and they’re reasoning for this is Judah’s controversial 12 round split decision win over Lucas Matthysse two years ago when Judah was fighting at home on the East coast. These fans don’t realize that Judah isn’t young anymore and he’s not even the same fighter that won a gift decision over Matthysse.

Judah vs. Garcia: Zab looking to capture Danny’s WBA/WBC 140 pound titles on February 9th in Brooklyn

judah4345By Dan Ambrose: 35-year-old Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) gets a shot at WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) on February 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Judah used to be one of the best fighters in the world a decade ago, but he’s really slipped and is now a former champion that is pretty much only being given a shot at title against Garcia because he’s well known to casual boxing fans and because he’s not considered really dangerous at this point in his career.

Judah to Garcia: Take your a** whooping from me and head down I-95

Image: Judah to Garcia: Take your a** whooping from me and head down I-95(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Jason Kim: Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) may be 35-years-old and considered past his prime by a lot of boxing fans, but he still feels he’s got what it takes to beat the slower but stronger WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) on February 9th when he go at it in the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York.

Judah and Garcia’s father Angel Garcia got into a big argument in their press conference last Saturday at Gallagher’s Steak House. Judah took issue with Angel calling him a “4 round fighter,” and things kind of took off from there with both Judah and Angel having to be held back by their team.

Garcia vs. Judah on February 9th in Brooklyn, New York

Image: Garcia vs. Judah on February 9th in Brooklyn, New YorkBy Dan Ambrose: The fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) and 35-year-old Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) has been moved from January to February 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Other than that, nothing has changed in terms of the actual match-up.

It’s still a mismatch between a young star on the rise in 24-year-old Garcia, and a faded star in 35-year-old Judah, whose talent is on the decline. Judah was given up for dead by a lot of boxing fans after being destroyed by Amir Khan last year in July in a 5th round knockout loss, but Judah resurrected his career by beating unproven and untested fringe 23-year-old Vernon Paris last March.

Judah-Garcia on February 9th at the Barclays Center

Image: Judah-Garcia on February 9th at the Barclays CenterBy Jason Kim: 35-year-old Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) is being given a title shot against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) on February 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Judah is getting the fight with Garcia not because he’s been tearing up the 140 pound division, but rather Judah is the most recognizable name amount the list of contenders in the division.

He’s not even ranked in the top 15 by the World Boxing Council, although he is ranked #1 by IBF after having beaten fringe contender Vernon Paris by a 9th round TKO last March in an International Boxing Federation 140 lb title eliminator bout. However, Judah is being picked because he’s well known among boxing fans for his title as a welterweight and light welterweight champion. Judah has faced guys like Floyd Mayweather Jr., Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey, Amir Khan, Kaizer Mabuza, Carlos Baldomir, Lucas Matthysse and Cory Spinks.
