By Dan Ambrose: Jermall Charlo doesn’t like that his fight against Hugo Centeno Jr. has been moved to the same card as former world champions Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis on April 21 on Showtime Boxing at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Arum to meet with Pacquiao, says Crawford & Vargas still options

pac#6

By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum hasn’t given up on the idea of former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao facing Terence Crawford or Jessie Vargas for his next fight on November 5. Arum promotes both Vargas and Crawford. Arum will be flying over to the Philippines on August 9 to have a one on one meeting with the Filipino star to take about is next fight in the U.S.

It’s unknown the 84-year-old Arum has Vargas and Crawford as Pacquiao’s potential opponent, because WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman is reportedly interested in facing Pacquiao, and that would appear to be a much better option for him than Crawford or Vargas, who aren’t big stars at this point and may never be.

Crawford isn’t even a welterweight. But with those guys being in Arum’s Top Rank stable, it makes it a very easy fight for him to make because he wouldn’t have to work with another promoter to negotiate the fight.

Thurman, Crawford, Vargas, Garcia and Brook have it tough

Keith Thurman

By Jaime Ortega: Unlike the Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao age, this generation of welterweights presents a wider diversity of boxing styles. Whomever comes on top in this era should rank higher than Floyd and Pacquiao’s legacy given the adversity and challenges he or them will have to overcome. We could end up with several different legends in this era and not just one.

The amount of undefeated boxers in the welterweight division is very high, and new prospects are ferociously coming to the scene to dominate and take all the belts. No welterweight will retire undefeated and boxing fans will probably witness many trilogies. If Floyd or Pacquiao fought in this era, I am convinced their boxing records would look different than what it looks today given the pool of talent lurking the welterweight division.

Arum: I’d rather one of my guys fight Pacquiao

arum96

By Chris Williams: It looks like former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) is going to be fighting one of his promoter Bob Arum’s fighters on November 5 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Arum is expected to be announcing Pacquiao’s next opponent by the end of this month. He’s waiting for this Saturday’s fight between WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford and WBC 140lb champion Viktor Postol to get down before he makes his choice for the 37-year-old Pacquiao.

Besides Crawford and Postol, WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas has a chance of being picked by Arum.

Pacquiao’s Nov. 5th fight to be staged at Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas, NV

pac66

By Allan Fox: Top Rank star Manny Pacquiao will be fighting on November 5th at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to his promoter Bob Arum in speaking to RingTV. Arum has had Pacquiao mostly fighting in Las Vegas for the last eight years. The only deviation from this norm was when Arum had Pacquiao fighting in Texas and Macao, China.

As for who the 37-year-old Pacquiao will be fighting, Arum still seems very, very interested in having him fight the winner of this Saturday’s light welterweight unification match between Terence Crawford and Viktor Postol.

Pacquiao’s next possible opponent: Crawford or Vargas

pac563

By Allan Fox: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum already has two guys in mind for his star money fighter Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) to pick from for his next fight this year. Arum says that WBO 140lb champion Terence Crawford (28-0, 20 KOs) and WBO 147lb champion Jessie Vargas (27-1, 10 KOs) are two potential opponents that they’re looking at for Pacquiao’s next fight, which will take place in late October or early November.

Pacquiao and his adviser Michael Koncz will be the one that make the decision about who he faces. It has to be someone that makes sense in terms of popularity.

Pacquiao and Arum made a mistake in their last fight match-up by choosing Tim Bradley as the opponent last April. They misjudged the fan interest in a third fight between these two fighters.

Brook vs. Vargas will get made this week, says Hearn

brook5333

By Patrick McHugh: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) and WBO champion Jessie Vargas (27-1, 10 KOs) could be facing each other real soon, according to Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport. Hearn says they made a large offer of $2 million to Vargas for the fight, which he says is more than what Brook will be making for the fight.

Hearn and Brook want the fight badly enough for them to take the smaller money despite him being the home fighter when the two champions face each other in Sheffield, UK. They want Vargas’ WBO 147lb title because they believe this will make Brook the dominant fighter in the welterweight division. From there, they believe they’ll get fights against the other top champions in Keith “One Time” Thurman and Danny Garcia. Brook also wants to fight former two division world champion Tim Bradley.

Jessie Vargas losing patience with Kell Brook

vargas

By Scott Gilfoid: Like Brandon Rios did in the past, WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas (27-1, 10 KOs) appears to be losing patience with the glacially slow negotiations that are taking place with his management and the management of IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs), and he’s now talking about wanting to potentially fight a rematch against fellow Top Rank fighter Timothy Bradley (33-2-1, 13 KOs), who Vargas lost to by a 12 round unanimous decision in June of 2015 in losing by the scores of 115-112, 116-112 and 117-111. Gee, I wonder if Brook is getting stage fright?

A fight between Vargas and Bradley would be a relatively simple matter if Bradley is game. We don’t know whether Bradley would be up for a second fight against the 27-year-old Vargas right now, because Bradley was just beaten by Manny Pacquiao by a 12 round unanimous decision last April.
