Curtis Stevens vs. James De La Rosa Added to Kovalev-Ward

Curtis “Cerebral Assassin” Stevens (28-5, 21 KOs) returns to the ring and the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on the Kovalev-Ward “Pound For Pound” non-televised undercard to face James “The King” De La Rosa (23-4, 13 KOs) in a ten-round middleweight showdown.

Stevens, 31, of Brownsville, Brooklyn returned to the ring on May 7 of this year and stopped previously undefeated Brazilian prospect Patrick Teixeira in the second round on the HBO Pay-Per-View® undercard of Canelo-Khan. The victory over Teixeira catapulted Stevens back into the ranking of all four sanctioning bodies, including top ten ratings in both the IBF and WBC. He is hoping to continue that momentum and secure another shot at the middleweight title.

De La Rosa, 28, is originally from Mexico but now resides in San Benito, Texas. His most recent win was a unanimous decision upset over former title contender Alfredo Angulo on the undercard of Mayweather-Maidana. De La Rosa has suffered two back-to-back losses since his win over Angulo but both have come at the hands of two previously undefeated prospects in Hugo Centeno Jr. and Jason Quigley. Commonly, fighters in his position would prefer a tune-up to get back on a winning track but, in this case, De La Rosa opted out of that easy route and decided to test himself against another former title contender in Stevens.

De La Rosa says 40% offer was never made by Lemieux’s management

Image: De La Rosa says 40% offer was never made by Lemieux's managementBy Jeff Aranow: James De La Rosa was supposed to face former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux tonight in a 10 round fight at the Olympia in Montreal, Canada. However, Lemieux came in overweight last Friday at the weigh-in for the fight. He was supposed to weigh 163lbs for the catch-weight, but he came in at 165.6lbs.

Unfortunately, De La Rosa and Lemieux’s management were unable to negotiate to have the fight go ahead. The fight was then cancelled. There were reports from the Montreal Gazette that Lemieux’s management offered De La Rosa a 40% increase with his purse.

However, Lemieux came in over the three agreed upon 163lb catch-weight limit Lemieux weighed in at 165.6lbs to De La Rosa’s 162.

Lemieux: I’m going to cross paths with Canelo

Lemieux-DelaRosa (2)(Photo Credit: Eye of the Tiger Management) By Dan Ambrose: David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs) is dead certain that he’ll be facing WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in the near future. Lemieux is co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, who also promotes Canelo.

Lemieux says that he will definitely be facing Canelo. Lemieux isn’t saying when the fight with Canelo will be taking place, but it wouldn’t be at all surprising if it happens this year in September on the Mexican Independence Day holiday weekend, because that’s when Canelo will be fighting after his fight with Amir Khan on May 7.

Lemieux wants rematch with Golovkin

1-LemieuxWorkout4Golovkin_Hoganphotos1By Jeff Aranow: Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs) says he wants a rematch with IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in the near future. Lemieux was stopped by Golovkin in the 8th round last October in a fight televised on HBO pay-per-view.

Lemieux, 27, didn’t let his hands go in that fight, and it turned out to be a one-sided fight from start to finish for the Kazakhstan fighter. Lemieux says he realizes what he did wrong in that fight, and he’s been working on fixing those flaws in his game.

Lemieux’s rebuilding starts on Saturday against De La Rosa

Image: Lemieux's rebuilding starts on Saturday against De La RosaBy Dan Ambrose: Last time we saw David Lemieux (34-3, 31 Kos), he was getting bulldozed by IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin through eight rounds last October. Lemieux was little more than a punching bag for Golovin inside the ring for eight rounds.

It wasn’t competitive, as Lemieux didn’t appear to even try to put up much of a fight. Lemieux lost his IBF middleweight title in defeat against Golovkin. This Saturday night, Lemieux will start the rebuilding phase of his career to try and get back to where he was before.

David Lemieux vs. James De la Rosa this Saturday

Image: David Lemieux vs. James De la Rosa this SaturdayBy Dan Ambrose: Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs) will be fighting this Saturday night on March 12 against James “The King” De La Rosa (23-3, 13 KOs) in a scheduled 10 round bout at the Olympia Theatre, in Montreal, Canada. The Lemieux vs. De La Rosa fight will be televised on Fox Deportes on Saturday night. It should be an interesting fight for as long as it lasts. Don’t blink though because you might miss it. This is probably not going to last long.

Both fighters are coming off of knockout losses in their last fights. Lemieux was stopped in the 8th round by IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin last October in Madison Square Garden in New York. De La Rosa, 28, was knocked out over a year ago in December 2014 in a 5th round knockout by the hard hitting Hugo Centeno Jr.

David Lemieux vs. James De La Rosa on March 12 in Montreal, Canada

Gennady Golovkin vs David LemieuxBy Dan Ambrose: Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs) will be returning to the ring in two months from now to face the 28-year-old ring rusty James De La Rosa (23-3, 13 KOs) on March 12 at the Olympia Theatre, in Montreal, Canada. The fight isn’t expected to be televised on HBO. It’s likely that the network is waiting for a more compelling match-up before they televise Lemieux again.

De La Rosa is a disappointing choice for Lemieux, because there had been talk that Lemieux could be facing Willie Monroe Jr. or Curtis Stevens next. Those are unquestionable tougher opponents than De La Rosa, who has not fought since being knocked out in the 5th round in December 2014.

Dulorme decisions Lundy; Centeno Jr destroys De La Rosa

dulorme777By Allan Fox: #2 WBA, #4 WBC, #4 IBF, #5 WBO light welterweight contender Thomas Dulorme (22-1, 14 KOs) proved little last Saturday night in beating #6 IBF Hank Lundy (25-4-1, 12 KOs) by an unimpressive 10 round split decision on the undercard of the Gabriel Rosado vs. David Lemieux fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The final judges’ scores were 96-93, 97-92 for Dulorme, and 96-93 for Lundy. Dulorme was running and holding from the 6th round on, and it’s difficult to make an argument that he deserve the victory. He looked as bad in this fight as he did in getting stopped by Luis Carlos Abregu in 2012.
