Jaime Munguia (29-0, 25 KOs), the newly-crowned WBO Junior Middleweight World Champion of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, will make the first defense of his title against former world champion Liam “Beefy” Smith (26-1-1, 14 KOs) in a 12-round main event Saturday, July 21 at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas. The fight will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Warren says the Munguia-Smith fight could take place in Los Angeles or New York. He says he’s hoping to find out what the location of the fight is by today.

Several fighters had already been announced and the tourney has been officially given the go ahead, with the top four seeded fighters looking to take their pick of the unranked underdogs at some point in the coming months. In Part 2, we explored the opportunities available to the leaked first six fighters of the eight-man Light Welterweight tournament, which looks to be announced very shortly. In Part 3 I’d like to muse on the potential third weight class.
