Badou Jack defends against George Groves on Mayweather-Berto card

groves95By Scott Gilfoid: As expected, WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) and challenger George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) have been added to help beef up the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Andre Berto card on September 12th on Showtime pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Jack vs. Groves fight is one that you can argue shouldn’t even be happening. I mean, Groves got whipped twice by former IBF/WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch not long ago in 2013 and 2014. Like all fighters that get knocked out twice in a row, Groves should have gone to the back of the line and worked his way back to a position where he could fight for a world title.

George Groves training at Golovkin’s gym at Big Bear, but not sparring with him

groves5By Scott Gilfoid: In hopes of raising his game enough to defeat WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs), #1 WBC contender George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) has flown over to California to train at Big Bear Gym.

Groves is hoping that some of Golovkin’s talent will rub off on him to get him to the next level. Unfortunately, Groves won’t be able to spar with Golovkin this time around, because it’s still too early for Golovkin to start his sparring. His fight isn’t until October 17th against IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) on HBO pay-per-view from Madison Square Garden.

Groves’ promoter wants purse bids for Badou Jack fight

groves5By Scott Gilfoid: Kalle Sauerland, the promoter for #1 WBC 168lb contender George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs), is saying that WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack’s promoters at Mayweather promotions failed to meet the terms for the original deal for the Jack-Groves fight. As such, Sauerland has contacted the World Boxing Council to have them order purse bids for the Jack vs. Groves fight.

Now it’ll be up to the WBC to decide whether or not to let this go to purse bids. Sauerland and Mayweather Promotions previously averted a purse bid recently after they were able to reach a deal for the fight. However, it’s unclear what happened to change the terms of the deal.

George Groves: I just can’t wait to KO Badou Jack

groves563257By Scott Gilfoid: It seems that #1 WBC 168lb contender George Groves’ recent wins over Denis Douglin and Christopher Rebrasse has gone to his head, because he’s now yapping about wanting to get in the ring with WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) for him to fight for Jack’s newly won world title.

Groves believes he’s going to knock Jack out when he gets him inside the ring, and he can’t wait to make that happen. Like I said, I think Groves’ recent wins over weak opposition has gone to his head to the point where he’s talking like he can walk on water and turn water into wine.

He says that the fight could be moved to September 12th instead. The fight had been scheduled for Showtime Championship Boxing for 8/22, but it’s been move for some reason.

It’s possible that the Jack-Groves fight is being moved to September 12th in order to beef up the undercard for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Andre Berto fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Adding that fight to the card will make it a lot more interesting card.

groves56By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) has finally gotten his big chance to make a splash in the United States when he faces WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) on August 22nd in Las Vegas, Nevada at a still to be determined venue.

It was already understood that Jack and Groves were going to be meeting up on 8/22, but now it’s official. Badou Jack vs. George Groves on Showtime on August 22nd in Las Vegas, Nevada

groves95By Scott Gilfoid: It looks like Showtime Championship Boxing will be televising the August 22nd title fight between WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) and #1 WBC George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs) from Las Vegas, Nevada, according to Lance Pugmire.

This will give the 31-year-old Jack a lot of much needed publicity having his fight shown on Showtime. Hopefully for Jack’s sake, boxing fans tune in to see the fight. Jack’s last fight against Anthony Dirrell did good numbers, but that was against a well-known fighter. Groves doesn’t have the same cache that Dirrell has in the United States.
