What is wrong with ‘running’?

Image: What is wrong with ‘running’?By Sean Pollock: Boxing- the art of hitting your opponent and avoiding getting hit yourself. It’s a sport we all love which caters for people of all tastes and opinions. Some people like an in-fighter, some people like an out-fighter; whilst some people just like to see two athletes battle it out to establish who is the better man. Personally, I’m inclined towards classy out-fighters who use their speed, intelligence and reflexes to win a fight. For me, watching the Alis’ and Leonards’ of the sport tactically maneuvering their way to victory is a dazzling display of ringsmanship.

Review of the year: A look at the good and bad of 2009 in boxing Part 2

Image: Review of the year: A look at the good and bad of 2009 in boxing Part 2By Michael Taylor: August: At the beginning of August Devon Alexander was introduced to the big time with a victory over Junior Witter, retiring Witter for the vacant WBC Light Welterweight title. On the same show, Timothy Bradley and Nate Campbell’s WBO Light Welterweight clash ended in a no-contest, as a head butt caused a nasty cut over Nate’s left eye, and the fight was stopped. It was originally called a TKO victory for Bradley but was later overruled to a no-contest. Then near the end of the month Juan Diaz defeated Paulie Malignaggi in his home town of Houston.

Haye’s performance was dull but necessary

By Alex Miles: On Saturday night David Haye performed a service to the heavyweight division by stripping a large unskilled fighter of his title in a tight and uninteresting bout.

Many people are criticizing Haye for his hit and run tactics, exclaiming that this fight proves that he’s a worthless commodity; that for all his bragging and negative assessment of the heavyweight division, he is no better than those who are currently ruling it.

Haye-Valuev: Win First, Look Good Second

haye4232By Andrew Muldoon: David Haye scored a points win in Nuremberg on Saturday night to snatch the World Boxing Association strap from the clutches of Nicolai Valuev. After speaking with my most knowledgeable friends and also nosing at the banter on the many boxing forums, I see there is mixed feelings towards what happened in Germany so I’m going to give you my take.

Vitali Klitschko: “I would Knock Haye out” – Boxing News

haye434342By Scott Gilfoid: In an article in The Sun, World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko had some sobering news for newly crowned WBA heavyweight champion David Haye, saying “I’ll fight him at any time and knock him out”. Full congratulations to Haye. It was a good performance, a good points win. It was very close. It is a good fight for the future, maybe. I am ready to fight anyone in the world. I am ready to show to everyone I am the strongest in the world.”

Does anyone think Haye looked good against Valuev?

haye654545By Scott Gilfoid: I hate to rain on the parade of fans of WBA heavyweight champion David Haye, but your man looked like utter crap last Saturday night against Nikolay Valuev. Haye put together one of the worst performances in taking away a heavyweight champion’s title that I think I’ve ever seen in my lifetime.

Haye defeats Valuev, but stinks up the joint with his running

haye333332By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight David Haye (23-1, 21 KO’s) defeated World Boxing Association heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev (50-2, 34 KO’s) by a 12 round majority decision last night to take Valuev’s WBA title at the Arena Numberger Versicherung, in Nuremberg, Germany. The final judges’ scores were 116-112, 114-114 and 116-112. I had the fight scored a draw. Haye, 29, frankly fought a horrible fight with with his constant running and his low (we’re talking really low) punch output. Seriously, this was one of the worst bouts I’ve ever seen in all my life.

Boxing Results – David Slays Goliath: Round-By-Round – Haye-Valuev

By Peter Wells: So there was no big knockout, no Haye wearing out down the stretch, just a good, not particularly exciting but a fight that kept you on edge. Despite the doubts Haye out boxed Valuev for 12 rounds straight despite only winning a majority decision. Haye may have fought at a slower pace, but it was the sensible option and he didn’t go rushing in for the knockout. Haye though was so very close to stopping the ‘Russian Giant’ in the last round and wouldn’t that have been a great picture for the front page. I have to give Valuev all respect, he threw more punches than ever before, and was much faster coming forward, but when he had David against the ropes he just didn’t capitalize. The ‘Hayemaker’ won by scores of 116-112 twice and 114-114.

Haye defeats Valuev: Look familiar?

By Dennis Broadhurst: After watching Haye win a twelve round decision last night over Valuev I was hardly inspired. Haye just ran and ran and only hit Valuev about three times every round. Valuev himself showed how bad he is, how little power he has and proved how boring he is. Haye showed good head movement and ring movement but he didn’t follow it up with anything.
