By Dan Henderson: Welcome to your weekly roundup of British boxing news. We start with last Saturday night at Upton Park where David Haye stopped Derek Chisora in a 5th round TKO victory. It was a marvelous night with a great atmosphere which was due to the 30,000+ crowd who were treated to 5 rounds of action which ended with Chisora stopped but both guys showed some class as they embraced at the end all but ending their feud.
Haye vs. Chisora
Chisora: Haye caught me with a lucky shot
By Allan Fox: For boxing who saw the David Haye – Dereck Chisora fight last weekend they almost unanimously saw Chisora get dominated from start to finish in his 5th round TKO loss at Upton park. However, Chisora said afterwards that Haye hit him with a “Lucky punch,” when Haye nailed Chisora with a big left hook followed by a right hand that knocked Chisora down for the first time in the 5th.
Haye: This could be my last fight if the Vitali Klitschko fight doesn’t take place
By Allan Fox: Boxing fans may have seen the last of former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) after he stopped Dereck Chisora (15-4, 9 KO’s) in the 5th round tonight at Upton Park in London, England in front of 30,000 roaring fans. Haye knocked the normally iron-chinned Chisora down twice in the fight.
What next for Dereck Chisora?
Haye: I’ll be surprised if Vitali wants to fight me now after what I did to Chisora
By Dave Lahr: Former two division world champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) sent a strong message to WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko tonight by totally obliterating someone he just finished struggling with in Dereck Chisora (15-4, 9 KO’s) by stopping him in the 5th round at Upton Park, in London, England.
Haye stops Chisora!
By Jim Dower: Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) blasted out Dereck Chisora (15-4, 9 KO’s) in the 5th round moments ago on Saturday night at Upton Park, in London, England. In the 5th round, Haye knocked Chisora to the canvas twice with huge shots. After the second knockdown the fight was halted by referee Luis Pabon.
Haye: Chisora needs a good hiding and I’m going to do it
By Allan Fox: Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) says he isn’t all that concerned with his boxing legacy going into his fight tonight against Dereck Chisora (15-3, 9 KO’s) at Upton Park in London. All Haye cares about is punishing Chisora for what he feels is obnoxious behavior both in and out of the ring.
Nigel Benn: Haye has to stop Chisora early or else
By Allan Fox: Former British boxing great Nigel Benn sees this as a make or break fight for both David Haye and Dereck Chisora with the loser of the fight being pretty much finished in the sport. Benn feels if Haye wins he’s got to do it early before Chisora comes on and starts punishing him like he did against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko last February.
Chisora: Haye’s afraid to fight 12 rounds
By Allan Fox: As everyone knows by now, David Haye (25-2, 23 KOs) reportedly failed to agree to have his fight with Dereck Chisora (15-3, 9 KO’s) as a 12 round bout on Saturday night. Instead, Haye was only up for fighting 10 rounds instead of 12. Chisora thinks that’s pretty lame of Haye and he’s lost some respect for him because of that.
Steward: Wladimir thinks Haye will beat Chisora
By Jason Kim: Emanuel Steward, the trainer for IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, is pulling for Dereck Chisora (15-3, 9 KO’s) to upset David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) on Saturday night because Steward very much would like to see a fight between Wladimir and Chisora. Steward doesn’t see Wladimir showing any interest in facing Haye again if Haye defeats Chisora on Saturday due to the one-sided nature of their fight last year in July.
