I expect Ricky Hatton to shine

Image: I expect Ricky Hatton to shineBy Mark Havey: Saturday night will see Ricky Hatton (45-2, KO’s 32) return to the ring against former WBA Welterweight champion (32-1, KO’s 21). Hatton is Britain’s most popular boxer with a legion of fans who will follow him anywhere in the world.

His aggressive style is pleasing to British fans who tend to appreciate a battle, and jeer at a fighter that hits and runs. Hatton has shared a ring with many great fighters and broke them down physically with body shots, and mentally with his courage and forward style.

Hatton could possibly retire if he loses to Senchenko on Saturday

Image: Hatton could possibly retire if he loses to Senchenko on SaturdayBy Scott Gilfoid: Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) is really asking for trouble by coming off a long 3 1/2 year retirement and taking on former WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (32-1, 21 KO’s) on Saturday night without any kind of tune-up and having recently trimmed off 70 pounds of pure blubber to get down to fighting weight. With all that, Hatton is hinting about going back into retirement if he loses to Senchenko.

Hatton said to thesun.co.uk “I’ll quit if I lose. If the worse happens, so be it. I know I can get up on Sunday morning and look at myself in the mirror and say ‘It didn’t come off, you haven’t got it anymore, so go and be the best promoter and trainer you can be.'”

Senchenko blows off final press conference; Hatton says he’ll be the meanest version of himself

YouTube video
By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA World welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko decided to blow off his final press conference with Ricky Hatton today for whatever reason. I’m not going to blame the man because he might have had car problems or was stuck in traffic. Who knows?

It doesn’t matter as long as he shows up on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena to fight Hatton in front of the huge paying crowd that will show up.

Ricky Hatton: My head and heart

Image: Ricky Hatton: My head and heartBy Rusty Nate: The time is nearly upon us when the “Hitman” Ricky Hatton finally makes his return to boxing. In a little over 48 hours the world will awaken to stories of “Wow, he proved us wrong” or “Hatton a shadow of his former self, we told you so”.

I believe Hatton will win Saturday’s fight regardless of the skill & fitness level he has managed to claw back. The reasons I think that are 2 fold……..

1 – I’ve always been a big fan of Hatton and so my heart (maybe stupidly) tells me “there is no way he loses”. There’s a bit of honesty for you rarely said by a writer, particularly on these forums. Ultimately this could go horribly wrong but my heart makes me positive that he is going to be the Ricky of old at least until the first bell sounds when reality could kick in. We’ll see.

Can Hatton come back from Pacquiao loss?

Image: Can Hatton come back from Pacquiao loss?By John F. McKenna (McJack): The popularity of former WBA/IBF/IBO and The Ring light welterweight champion and WBA welterweight champion Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) has not waned over the years. Even his dramatic stoppage at the hands of Manny Pacquiao did nothing to dissuade his fans of their loyalty to their hero. When Ricky fights his fans eagerly put down their money to watch him in action.

The question being asked by even some of his most ardent supporters is, can Hatton come back after his devastating loss to Pacquiao 3 ½ years ago? Granted, other fighters have come back after being away from the ring for long periods of time. Some have even come back after seemingly career ending injuries. Most notable is Vitali Klitschko who returned to the ring after a four year hiatus to reclaim his WBC heavyweight title belt.

Senchenko needs to go after Hatton early

Image: Senchenko needs to go after Hatton earlyBy Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA World welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (32-1, 21 KO’s) is going to be really up against it on Saturday night in facing Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) in front of 20,000 Brits at the Manchester Arena, in England.

Senchenko is already coming off of a 9th round TKO loss in his last fight, and there’s little doubt that Hatton is going to be looking to wear him out on the inside with his body attacks and wrestling. Senchenko has that Eastern European fighting style which has little inside fighting skills.

Pacquiao thinks Hatton is making a mistake in coming back

Image: Pacquiao thinks Hatton is making a mistake in coming backBy William Mackay: This Saturday night Ricky Hatton has decided to make his comeback after years of being out of the game. He’ll be facing Vyacheslav Senchenko in Manchester, and while Senchenko isn’t considered to be one of the top five welterweights in the division, he’s still a decent bottom 30 guy.

A lot of Hatton’s fans are really excited about him making a comeback and think he’ll find success. Manny Pacquiao thinks Hatton is making a big mistake in coming back and he doesn’t quite understand it.

Ricky Hatton: A fan’s words

Image: Ricky Hatton: A fan's wordsI have just watched a documentary called ‘Ricky Hatton: The Comeback’. Emotionally, I am conflicted and drained.

Like most boxing fans I was thrilled and concerned by the announcement of Ricky Hatton’s comeback. Thrilled for selfish reasons, certainly.

Concerned… that an idol of so many is willing to risk so much to please those who need no appeasement, who ask no more of you. So, what are you fighting for, not for money and certainly not penitence.

Defeat teaches us more than success, but few men have the strength to accept the lesson taught.

Malignaggi thinks Senchenko could give Hatton problems

Image: Malignaggi thinks Senchenko could give Hatton problemsBy Scott Gilfoid: WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi thinks a motivated Vyacheslav Senchenko (32-1, 21 KO’s) could give a rusty Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) all kinds of problems when they meet this Saturday night at the Manchester Arena in the UK. Malignaggi defeated Senchenko recently after puffing up one of his eyes in April. However, Malignaggi has been active unlike Hatton, who has been out of boxing for the past 3 1/2 years.

Malignaggi told thesun.co.uk “Senchenko might think ‘I lost to Malignaggi. I might as well go for broke.'”

Hatton says he was weight drained in loss to Pacquiao

Image: Hatton says he was weight drained in loss to PacquiaoBy Scott Gilfoid: Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) has revealed that he was weight drained for his fight against Manny Pacquiao in 2009 that he lost by a 2nd round knockout. Hatton says that he was weak before the fight from making weight.

Hatton said to the telegraph.co.uk “I was weight drained. I was absolutely dead. It wasn’t hard for me to have been knocked out by the best in the world by Pacquiao.”
