Crawford-Lundy: Can Hank pull off an upset?

crawford6By Dan Ambrose: After toiling hard for the past 10 years, 32-year-old Henry “Hank” Lundy (26-5-1, 13 KOs) will finally be getting a shot at a world title. That’s the good news. The bad news is Lundy will be fighting WBO light welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (27-0, 19 KOs) on February 27th on HBO Championship Boxing from Madison Square Garden in New York.

Lundy is facing what some fans feel is the best fighter in the 140lb division in the 28-year-old Crawford. I’m sure WBC and WBA champions Viktor Postol and Adrien Broner would have something to say about that, as they both believe they are the best fighters in the 140lb division.

Never the less, it’s not likely that we’re going to be seeing Postol and Broner facing Crawford in order to find out who the really is the best fighter is in the light welterweight division.

Lundy predicts KO win over Terence Crawford

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Jan. 11th, 2016) — When it came time for undefeated junior welterweight world champion Terence Crawford to find a suitable opponent for his first title defense of 2016, only one of the so-called top 140-pounders in the world answered the challenge.

Philadelphia’s “Hammerin'” Hank Lundy, boxing’s most feared road warrior, will get his long-overdue title shot Saturday, Feb. 27th, 2016 against the unbeaten Crawford in the 12-round main event of HBO’s World Championship Boxing doubleheader at The Theater at Madison Square Garden for Crawford’s World Boxing Organization (WBO) title.

Terence Crawford to face Hank Lundy on Feb. 27 at MSG

crawford3By Dan Ambrose: WBO 140lb champion Terence Crawford (27-0, 19 KOs) will be defending his WBO title against the struggling 32-year-old Hank Lundy (26-5-1, 13 KOs) on HBO Championship Boxing on February 27 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Also on the card is Felix Verdejo (19-0, 14 KOs) fighting William Silva (23-0, 14 KOs) in the battle of unbeaten lightweights. Verdejo, 22, will have his WBO Latino title on the line for the fight. Verdejo could be challenging for a world title later in 2016 against WBO lightweight champion Terry Flanagan.

Crawford, 28, did not have many choices for this title defense. He wanted to fight Manny Pacquiao, but he chose Tim Bradley for his next opponent. Crawford’s promoters at Top Rank attempted to get Mauricio Herrera, and Ruslan Provodnikov, but those fights failed to happen. Viktor Postol is someone that Top Rank has in their stable, but it looks like the two of them are going to go in separate directions rather than face each other.

Michael Montero – In what will likely be the last boxing event ever held at LA Sports Arena, Mauricio Herrera took on Hank Lundy Saturday night in a junior welterweight match scheduled for twelve rounds. In the co-feature to the HBO Latino broadcast, Michael Perez took on Luis Sanchez in a ten round lightweight context. It was all part of a Golden Boy Promotions card that kicked off with a special “fan fiesta” earlier in the afternoon where fans could hang out with their favorite fighters to get photos and autographs. Indeed it was a great Saturday to be a boxing fan in Los Angeles.

lundy4By Robert Earle Stanton 2015 Allen Hoey Award Winner/Author, Selling The Pain.

I dialed Hank Lundy’s number after I sent him a few pages of questions and he said, “Rather do it over the phone?”

I hear him answer and I thought he sounded tired. “Hello, Hank, its Bob, tired?”
“No,” he said, “Just got done working out.”

Hank Lundy W UD Ajose Olusegun: Review

lundy55By Peter Wells (twitter- @boxingbrains): For Ajose Olusegun last night was far, far from the way himself and his team had envisioned the fight going. Ajose wasn’t the only one surprised, as almost all boxing fans believed that Ajose would come out on top, but what took place was far too similar to the beating Ajose took at the hands of Lucas Matthysse rather than the beatings Ajose was offering out to his opponents at a lower level.

While Lundy’s performance was exceptional, Ajose’s lacked in almost all departments. There was little snap in his punches and it seemed after the 5th round he lost all confidence in his ability to keep Lundy off him. Sadly it seems that inactivity and the beating at the hands of Lucas Matthysse has finally caught up with the 33 year old boxer.
