Robert Guerrero talking Kamegai fight: I could have made it easy

guerrero4455By Dan Ambrose: After his struggles to beat fringe contender Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-2-1, 21 KO’s), Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (32-2-1, 18 KO’s) is still conducting damage control to help shape the minds of boxing fans that saw the fight. Guerrero won the fight by a 12 round unanimous decision at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, but he took a lot of head trauma from the powerful punches from the Japanese fighter.

Guerrero says that he could have made it a very easy fight if he wanted to, but he wanted to make it exciting for the fans, which is why he says he stood in there and fought Kamegai in a toe-to-toe battle for 12 rounds.

Guerrero: Kamegai was a lot tougher than Andre Berto

guerrero11111By Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (32-2-1, 18 KO’s) looked like the loser last Saturday night instead of the winner in his fight against Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-2-1, 21 KO’s) after receiving a 12 round unanimous decision win at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. With one eye badly swollen and purplish, Guerrero made excuses for why he had struggled so badly with the 29-year-old Kamegai.

Guerrero’s main excuse was that he chose to slug with Kamegai instead of boxing him, as if to make it sound like he had given the Japanese fighter a handicap instead of giving him credit. But after giving a number of interviews, Guerrero finally gave Kamegai some credit, saying “This guys a lot tougher than Berto. He hit hard. He has a weird awkward style. He throws weird right hands. He was strong. He was trying to lay me out with that right hand.”

Robert Guerrero needs a new trainer badly

guerrero5By Scott Gilfoid: In watching Robert Guerrero (32-2-1, 18 KO’s) go life and death with a fringe level contender in Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-2-1, 21 KO’s) last night, I think I speak for everyone here when I say he needs to think seriously about dumping his current trainer Ruben Guerrero and find a real trainer that can improve his game.

It was just awful to watch Guerrero getting beaten up by a guy who arguably shouldn’t be ranked in the top tier if the welterweight division’s talent wasn’t watered down by 4 sanctioning bodies.

Kamegai to use high volume punch attack against Guerrero tonight

guerrero56678(Picture credit: Hogan Photos) By Dan Ambrose: Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) plans on altering his normal fighting style tonight by throwing many more punches than he normally does when he faces Robert “The Ghost” Guerero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Kamegai, 29, normally loads up on everything he throws in an effort to score knockouts, but he realizes that Guerrero has a strong chin and can take almost amount of punishment without going down or getting hurt. For this reason Kamegai is going to try and outwork Guerrero if possible.

“This fight with Guerrero is about stamina, boxing a little more than usual but also throwing more punches,” Kamegai said via RingTV.com.

Weights: Guerrero-Kamegai, Lomachenko-Russell Jr

guerrero3333By Dan Ambrose: Welterweight contender Robert Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) weighed in today at 146 pounds for his fight against Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) for their fight on Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Kamegai weighed in at 146.7lbs, and looked considerably taller than the 5’8” Guerrero, who has always been the taller fighter in his bouts.

It was strange to see Guerrero staring up at Kamegai. It’ll be interesting to see how well Guerrero deals with being the smaller man on Saturday night.

Guerrero with tough fight against Kamegai on Saturday

guerrero44444(Picture credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Robert Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) is expected to win this Saturday night against #7 IBF, #13 WBC Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-1-1, 21 KO’s), but this fight could prove to be a very difficult one for the 31-year-old Guerrero to win. The Japanese fighter has excellent power and should make a good fight of it when Guerrero faces him at the StubHub Center, in Carson, California, USA.

Kamegai is like a more accurate and busier version of Selcuk Aydin. Guerrero will win, but he’s going to get hit a lot in this fight.

Guerrero needs to shine in this fight for him to make a case that he deserves bigger money fights against the top guys. He’d obviously like to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr and/or Manny Pacquiao, but he needs to be impressive against fringe level guys like Kamegai, and more importantly, Guerrero needs to take on someone like Keith Thurman. That fight was reportedly offered to Guerrero following his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr last year, but he failed to accept it.

Robert Guerrero could face Khan next if he gets by Kamegai on Saturday

LA-WKOT-Guerrero(Picture credit: Hogan Photos) By Scott Gilfoid: There’s talk that former two division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) could be Amir Khan’s next opponent for later this year in November or December if Guerrero, 31, gets passed his hard hitting opponent Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) this Saturday night in their Showtime televised fight at the StubHub Center, in Carson, California, USA.

It’s not expected that Guerrero will have any slip ups in this fight, because he’s way, way above the level of the 31-year-old Kamegain in the talent and experience department, but when you’re talking about a fighter who has been sitting around doing zero for over a year the way that Guerrero has, it’s quite conceivable that he could get spanked by Kamegai in this fight. It happens when you start taking it easy after a big payday the way that Guerrero has after he talked his way into a money fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr last year.

guerrero01By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) will be back in the ring this Saturday night to face little known #7 IBF, #13 WBC Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) in a tune-up fight on Showtime at the StubHub Center, in Carson, California, USA. Guerrero lost his last fight to Floyd Mayweather Jr last year in May in a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The fight was so one-sided it was the kind of match where you would think that there’s no way on earth that the two fighters will face each other again, but Guerrero said earlier today that he’s looking to get back in the Mayweather picture. He feels that he can get be one of Mayweather’s last remaining fight before he retires.

The Dawson-Blades fight, which isn’t expected to be a competitive one, won’t be make the television portion of the Showtime card.

It’s not surprising that the Dawson vs. Blades fight won’t be televised because the card is loaded with Gary Russell Jr facing Vasyl Lomachenko for the vacant WBO featherweight title, former two division world champion Devon Alexander battling Jesus Soto Karass in a 10-round bout, and heavyweights Dominic Breazeale and Devin Vargas going at in a 10 round fight.
