Golovkin vs. Wade

(Photo Credit, Chris Farina/K2 Promotions) By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) will be looking to get his 22nd consecutive knockout this Saturday night in his title defense against his IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) from the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Golovkin’s knockout string goes back to 2008. The last fighter to go the distance with Golovkin is Amar Amari, who survived an eight round bout against Golovkin in June 2008. Amari spent most of the fight covering up against the ropes.

By Allan Fox: Six day from now, IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) will be defending his titles against unbeaten Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) on April 23 on HBO Championship Boxing from the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Golovkin, 34, says he’s not overlooking the untested and little known Wade in this fight, but you can’t help but wonder whether there will be a let down on Golovkin’s part. This is not the fight that he wanted. Golovkin was hoping to be facing the likes of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez of Billy Joe Saunders in unification fights by this point, but those fighters have shown enough interest in taking a fight with him to agree to a fight.

By Allan Fox: Boxing fans have 10 more days before IBF/IBP/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin defends his titles against IBF challenger Dominic Wade on April 23. This is a fight that many fans are really looking forward to despite the fact that it’s seen largely as a mismatch with Golovkin facing his ritual sacrificial lamb for the slaughter.

I don’t agree with that. I think the 25-year-old Wade is going to give Golkovkin a real test in this fight. You have to remember that this is going to be Wade’s Super Bowl, his World Series, and he’s going to be totally hyped up for the fight, unlike Golovkin.

By Dan Ambrose: Due to the high ticket sales for this month’s fight between IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) and Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs), the officials for the Forum in Inglewood, California, will be increasing the Forum to max capacity of 17,000 for the April 23 fight.

This is not surprising because there’s been a huge amount of interest in the fight card despite the main event match between Golovkin and Wade being seen as a mismatch by most boxing fans.

The co-feature bout between WBC flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (43-0, 38 KOs) and McWilliams Arroyo (14-2, 12 KOs) is helping to draw interest from fans wanting to attend the card.

The Golovkin vs. Wade card will be televised on HBO Championship Boxing on April 23. If Golovkin wins, he could be facing WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez later this year in September unless Canelo decides he doesn’t want to face the Kazakhstan fighter.

Golovkin is in his 10th year as a pro, and he now more than ever needs to start getting the bigger names to fight him if he doesn’t want to wind up as another avoided fighter like Guillermo Rigondeaux.

2016 is going to be a very important year for GGG because he’ll find out this year if he’ll be getting a fight against WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez or not. If Golovkin can’t get that fight, then he needs to move on and just be happy with winning the WBC title after it’s stripped from the 25-year-old Canelo for failing to accept the challenge from Golovkin.

By Dan Ambrose: The long awaited match between IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) and Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) is only 16 days away for their fight on April 23 on HBO from the Forum in Inglewood, California.

This is one of those rare fights where both guys are going into the match undefeated. Wade, 25, is a lot younger than the 34-year-old Golovkin, but his youth isn’t necessarily a good thing in this case.

Wade, 25, sees this fight as a tremendous opportunity for him and he intends on taking advantage of that opportunity by beating the powerful 34-year-old Golovkin. Wade doesn’t see anything special when he looks at Golovkin’s fights other than his punching power, and he feels he’s very beatable. He says he’s going to beat him on April 23rd and then move on with his win to get bigger fights out there.

By Jim Dower: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) and challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) were both on target with their weights at the 30-day weigh-in this week for their fight on April 23 at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Golovkin weighed in at an unbelievable 164lbs for the 30-day weigh-in. Wade, 25, came in much heavier at 175.6.bs. The World Boxing Council mandates that their fighters weigh-in 30 days prior to their fights in order to make sure their weight is within target range to make weight. Both Wade and Golovkin made weight.
