Golovkin could make fans forget Mayweather

1-GolovkinLemieuxWeighIn_Hoganphotos1By Allan Fox: With an impressive knockout tonight against IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs), IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady GGG Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) could make a legion of boxing fans forget their bad experiences with Floyd Mayweather Jr’s recent boring fights against Manny Pacquiao and Andre Berto.

Besides being incredibly dull, those two fights were overpriced in the minds of a lot of boxing fans in having to pay between $65 and $100. In contrast, tonight’s clash between Golovkin and Lemieux is relatively cheap at $49.99, and promises entertainment from start to finish.

Golovkin will not be the King part II

1-GolovkinLemieuxWeighIn_Hoganphotos2By Reveriano: I recently wrote an article arguing that IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) will not be the PPV King. That in fact that title will belong to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

Predictably, I took some very heavy flak. Some of it valid and some of it making no sense. But due to the fact that I have plenty of free time due to the success of my businesses and apparently I have nothing else to do. I have taken the opportunity to respond.

De La Hoya: Lemieux can beat Golovkin

1-GolovkinLemieuxWeighIn_Hoganphotos3By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is banking on IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) beating IBO/WBA middleweight champ Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) this Saturday night.

De La Hoya thinks that Lemieux has the right combination of punching power and boxing skills to pull off the upset at Madison Square Garden in New York. Like Lemieux, I don’t think De La Hoya would even call it an upset because he firmly believes in his fighter.

1-GolovkinLemieuxWeighIn_HoganphotosBy Sarkis Aghbashian: This Saturday at the Madison Square Garden in New York, we will have the honor to experience the best middleweight fight between the IBF champion David Lemieux (34-2-0,31 KOs) and the IBO/WBA champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs)

Boxing fans and boxing critics have been waiting a very long time to finally find out if GGG is the real deal or if Lemieux could pull this upset. This fight will be an all-out slugfest, because both fighters have similar fighting styles. In other words, both fighters hunt their prey, cut the ring and use their power to obliterate their opponent.

Purses: Golovkin $2M, Lemieux $1.5M, Gonzalez $250K, Viloria $100K

1-GolovkinLemieuxWeighIn_Hoganphotos5By Tim Fletcher: IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) will be getting the lion’s share of the money this Saturday night for his fight against IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs).

Golovkin’s purse for this Saturday will be a career high of $2 million. Lemieux, 26, isn’t that far behind in picking up $1.5 million. It’s unclear if the Canadian money he gets is included in his purse. If not, then Lemieux will likely wind up with more money than Golovkin for their fight on HBO pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden.

Golovkin weighed in at 159.4lbs and looked good, and definitely not weigh-drained like you see from a lot of fighters that melt down to make weight. For his part, Lemieux looked drained in coming in at 159.4lbs.

Lemieux: I’m going to hurt Golovkin

1-GGGLemieuxFinalPC_Hoganphotos8By Dan Ambrose: IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) is seen by a lot of fans of the sport to be the token sacrificial lamb for IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) to slaughter this Saturday night.

Fans don’t believe that Lemieux has much of a chance in this fight because of his two past defeats from 2011, and because of his youth and relative experience. The experience, amateur pedigree and the defensive skills are all in Golovkin’s favor in this fight.

Golovkin will not be the King

1-golovkin (7)By Reveriano: I would like to begin this piece by reminding the viewer that I was a fan of IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) before it was popular to be a fan. I argued a few weeks ago that the only opponent that Floyd Mayweather Jr could choose for his last fight would persuade me to pay would be GGG. I would also like to state that I am extremely excited about this upcoming match.

I think it will be extremely entertaining and fun to watch. But at no point am I convinced, under the illusion, or believe that GGG will be the next PPV King.
