Golovkin: I want Canelo fight, I’m very mad

Image: Golovkin: I want Canelo fight, I’m very mad

By Dan Ambrose: Gennady “GGG” Golovkin took another scalp last Saturday night in beating number #2 middleweight Daniel Jacobs, and now he’s angry and ready to beat Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Golovkin wants the Canelo fight in the worst way after pursuing the fight with the Golden Boy Promotions star with no luck.

Golovkin and Canelo could take place in September, but it’s still very much uncertain. Golovkin was almost sidetracked by Jacobs due to their fight being a close one. Golovkin won by a 12 round unanimous decision, but it was close at the end. The difference between them was Golovkin’s 4th round knockdown of Jacobs.

GGG More Myth Than Legend

Gennady “GGG” Golovkin went to battle with the unheralded Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs this past Saturday night on Pay Per View. From that fight we were able to determine a lot about the middleweight kingpin separating myth from the legend he has inspired. Guys like Golovkin remind me of Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson, an absolute monster until they step in the ring with a semi live body. Golovkin was given a boxing lesson almost the entire fight, his fourth round knockdown of Jacobs was more of a tackle but giving the champion the benefit of doubt we will say it was the only real time he got to Jacobs. Meanwhile Jacobs, a man who was thoroughly dominated then knocked out by Dmitry Pirog looked to have been given Golovkin all kinds of problems, which thoroughly explains to this writer why Golovkin has been acting the way he has.

GGG deserves #1 P4P rating

Image: GGG deserves #1 P4P rating

By Bob Smith: Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) deserves to be rated #1 pound-for-pound after his 12 round unanimous decision win over Daniel Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) last Saturday night at Madison square Garden, in New York. There is no excuse for him not to be #1, since he did defeat the second best middleweight in the world in Danny Jacobs, and since the current P4P #1, at least according to ESPN, Roman “Chocalatito” Gonzalez (46-1, 38 KOs), lost on Saturday to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (42-4-1, 38 KOs) by a 12 round majority decision. First, I’ll discuss the Jacobs fight; then, the issue of GGG as P4P #1; finally, where GGG ranks among the best boxers of the last 30-40 years or so.

By Chris Williams: Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) squeaked by his WBA mandatory challenger Daniel Jacobs by a close and highly questionable 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night. The fight results have been questioned by massive amounts of boxing fans who thought Jacobs should have had his hand raised at the end of the fight. HBO commentator Max Kellerman thought it was a very close fight that was decided by Golovkin winning the 12th round. However, 2 of the 3 judges gave Jacobs the 12th round.

Golovkin vs. Jacobs – Final punch stats

Image: Golovkin vs. Jacobs - Final punch stats

By Allan Fox: Daniel Jacobs’ assertion that he had out-landed and out-threw Gennady Golovkin last Saturday night in his 12 round unanimous decision loss to him doesn’t match the final punch stats from Compu-Box, They saw Golovkin landing 231 of 615 punches for a connect percentage of 38. In comparison, Jacobs landed 175 of 541 punches for a connect percentage of 32.

Golovkin landed more punches, and his punches seemed to be the harder variety. Even Golovkin’s jabs were very hard, and snapping Jacobs’ head back when they landed. Jacobs landed a lot of weak jabs that weren’t thrown with any authority. They looked like they were thrown by Jacobs to keep Golovkin off of him rather than to score points.
