By Patrick McHugh: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs are still in negotiations for a fight that is being targeted for December 10 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The World Boxing Association has already given the two fighters’ management a 30-day deadline to negotiate the fight starting on September 12.

With less than a week to go, it appears the fight will go to a purse bid unless an agreement can be made soon. While Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler is hopeful that an agreement can be reached, it’s not a good sign that they’re down to the last week. There’s a possibility the Golovkin-Jacobs fight could get moved to 2017.

Sanchez hoping Golovkin-Jacobs can get made

1-golovkin (7)

By Dan Ambrose: With a match against Saul Canelo Alvarez not happening due to the Mexican star being injured and his promoters at Golden Boy not interested in making a fight, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady GGG Golovkin is looking to face WBA “regular’ middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs next on December 10. HBO wants the fight, as it’ll be a big one for boxing fans, and Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez wants the fight to take place.

Sanchez is hoping that Jacobs doesn’t price himself out of the fight by asking for more money than the fight can provide. Sanchez suspects that Jacobs will be stripped of his WBA title by the World Boxing Association if he chooses to not take the place, because they’ve ordered the fight.

By Dan Ambrose: With Saul Canelo Alvarez on the shelf for the remainder of 2016 with a fractured right thumb, unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin is moving in to take Canelo’s December 10 date on HBO with his fight against Daniel Jacobs. World Boxing Association president Gilberto Mendoza has ordered the Golovkin-Jacobs fight, and their management is negotiating the fight, which could take place at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Canelo, 26, fractured his right thumb in his fight against WBO junior middleweight champion Liam smith. The good news for Golovkin is that it opens up the December 10 date for him to fight Jacobs.

By Patrick McHugh: The management for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and World Boxing Association “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs are in negotiations for a fight that they’re reportedly looking at stage on December 10 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Golovkin-Jacobs fight would likely be televised on HBO championship Boxing. It’s doubtful that it will be a big enough affair for it to make it on HBO pay-per-view unless they insist on it.

By Patrick McHugh: WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs reportedly saw IBF/IBOWBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s recent fight against welterweight Kell Brook last Saturday night, and he believes he’ll knockout the Kazakhstan fighter when/if the two of them fight.

Jacobs’ adviser Connolly says that Jacobs saw enough from Golovkin’s fight against Brook to believe that he won’t be able to take his big power shots if they fight each other. World Boxing Association president Gilberto Mendoza ordered Golovkin and Jacobs to begin negotiations, giving them 30 days to negotiate the fight.

Daniel Jacobs to Golovkin: “Never ran and I never will!!!”

By Allan Fox: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) and IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) had a brief exchange earlier today on social media in which Jacobs, 29, let ‘him know that he wasn’t planning on running from him by not taking the fight. Golovkin vs. Jacobs shapes up to be a war from start to finish. Neither guy will back off in this fight, which is a good thing. Watching Kell Brook run from Golovkin last Saturday night was not a pleasant experience. At least Jacobs will try and make a fight of it, and that’s great boxing fans because they’re in for a real treat.

This is good news to know, because World Boxing Association president Gilberto Mendoza recently ordered Jacobs and Golovkin to face each other within 120 days. The two fighters have a month to get the fight negotiated. Jacobs doesn’t plan on vacating, and it goes without saying that GGG will be taking the fight.

WBA orders Golovkin vs. Jacobs fight

By Allan Fox: IBF/IBO/ WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s management will need to start negotiations for a fight against WBA “regular” champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 29 KOs) for a fight that must take place within 120 days from now, as World Boxing Association president Gilberto Mendoza on Monday formally ordered the two fighters to face each other next. If the two fighters are unable to agree to a deal within that time, then the WBA will order a purse bid.

This is bad news for Golovkin, because he was hoping to get a unification match against WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders next. That fight doesn’t look like it’s going to happen unfortunately. Golovkin, 34, is expected back in the ring on November 26 on HBO. They have the date set aside for him. Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) says the fight against Jacobs would be taking place in New York, which is where Jacobs lives.
