Robert Garcia: Rubio will beat Golovkin because of his Mexican blood running through his veins

golovkinBy Dan Ambrose: Marco Antonio Rubio’s trainer Robert Garcia has it all figured out why he feels his fighter will be able to conquer the odds this month and defeat WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) on October 18th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

According to Garcia, Rubio (59-6-1, 51 KOs) will beat Golovkin because of the Mexican blood in his veins, as well as because of his training. Garcia says Golovkin has the “Mexican Style,” but Rubio has the Mexican blood and that he feels will be the telling factor in Rubio beating the odds to defeat Golovkin in their fight on HBO on 10/18.

“He’s [Rubio] training hard, he’s motivated, and he’s got Mexican blood running through his veins, not just ‘Mexican style,’” Garcia said to esnewsreporting.com. “He’s got Mexican blood and that makes a big difference.”

Golovkin is a pretty talented fighter and it’s hard to see him losing to Rubio, who isn’t considered to be the top fighter in the division. Golovkin rates Rubio over the likes of Sam Soliman, Daniel Jacobs, Peter Quillin and Miguel Cotto, but not too many other people do.

Gennady Golovkin: Untried, Unproven, Untested

golovkin97464By Victor Candelario: Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) has burst onto the boxing scene knocking out 90% of all opposition he has faced thus far. While boxing fans seem to believe the hype surrounding Golovkin, I haven’t yet welcomed GGG with open arms.

In my eyes he remains Untried, Unproven, & Untested. After watching several of his past fights I feel as though he has been put in the ring with outmatched, undersized opponents, who in my opinion, do not deserve to be in the ring against Golovkin.

For those who don’t know, the past 5 fighters he has faced is Daniel Geale, Osumanu Adama, Curtis Stevens, Matthew Macklin, and Nobuhiro Ishida. All of them have suffered 3 or more defeats, with Ishida suffering 9 losses in his boxing career.

Golovkin-Rubio tickets hard to find, Loeffler wants additional seating

golovkinBy Dan Ambrose: Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions is hoping to get additional seating opening up for the October 18th fight between WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) and Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51 KOs) at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

The tickets have reportedly sold out for the fight, so Loeffler is looking to add bleacher seats so that more tickets can be sold. There’s still three weeks to go before the fight, and they can sell a lot more tickets before then.

“Met with @StubHubCenter yesterday, trying to figure out how to add more tix for Oct 18 for @gggboxing vs @MAVenenoRubio on @HBOboxing,” Loeffler said on his twitter.

In hindsight, Loeffler should have opted for a bigger venue than the StubHub Center, which has a seating capacity of 27,000. But Loeffler had no way of knowing that there would be this kind of demand for the tickets for the fight.

Rubio is obviously pulling in a lot of fans from the area, and a lot of new fans want to see Golovkin fight with his “Mexican Style”, which is what they’ve named the fight card.

Golovkin already down to 165

golovkin63By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is already down to 165 pounds for his title defense against Marco Antonio Rubio for their fight next month for their “Mexican Style” clash on HBO Championship Boxing on 10/18 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Golovkin and Rubio weighed in on Monday in their WBC ordered 30-day weigh-in. What we learned from the weigh-in is that Golovkin is already at the weight pretty much for the fight, and that means he’s going to be very, very strong.

Rubio weighed in at 174.5 pounds. What that tells you is that he’s going to need to cut at least 15 pounds of water weight to make weight. He’s already in shape, so he’s not going to lose fat in the next 30 days. The weight that comes off from Rubio is going to be water weight that he sheds to get to the 160 pound limit.

Rubio will need his A-game to be competitive with Golovkin

golovkinBy Dan Ambrose: WBC interim middleweight champion Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51 KOs) believes he’s got a good chance of knocking out WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) in their fight next month on October 18th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Unfortunately for Rubio, few boxing fans and writers are giving him a shot at knocking Golovkin out or beating him by a decision. It’s not that Rubio doesn’t have the punching power to KO Golovkin in theory. It’s just that Rubio is going to have huge problems in taking the punishment that Golovkin will be dishing out.

Rubio has a good chin, as we saw in his 7th round stoppage win over the hard hitting David Lemieux in 2011. Rubio took terrible punishment in the first 5 rounds of that fight before taking over in the 6th round when Lemieux gassed out completely. But the reality is that if Lemieux hadn’t gassed out then it’s very likely that Rubio would have been finished by the 8th round.

He wouldn’t take another 3-4 rounds of the kind of punishment that Lemieux was dishing out in that fight, and it wasn’t competitive at all until Lemieux got tired. Before that, it was like Lemieux working on a heavy bag in nailing Rubio with punch after punch.
