By Dan Ambrose: It’s generally understood that WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) will be applying a great deal of pressure on his opponent #2 WBA Willie Monroe (19-1, 6 KOs) this Saturday night in their fight on HBO Championship Boxing at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

The 33-year-old Golovkin is a seek and destroy type of fighter who does his best when he’s putting pressure on his opponents. However, Monroe thinks that Golovkin could be going down the wrong street if he tries to put pressure on him because he’ll make him pay for his aggressive fighting style by nailing him with counter shots all night long.

Golovkin’s trainer feels that Monroe is such a big underdog that there is no resulting pressure on him because everyone pretty much expects him to come up the loser in this fight at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

He believes he’s going to have too much ring intelligence for the Kazakhstan fighter to deal with in this fight at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Monroe says his ring IQ will be the telling factor in the fight because he’ll ultimately be the smarter fighter and will overcome whatever obstacles the 33-year-old Golovkin presents for him in this fight.

By Dan Ambrose: Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) is expected to run over Willie Monroe (19-1, 6 KOs) this Saturday night he’s little more than a speed bump in their fight on HBO Championship Boxing. Golovkin is a heavy favorite, and he’s got a big advantage in punching power.

What Golovkin doesn’t have is the same hand speed, defensive skills or the ability to move the way that Monroe can. Whether that results in Monroe scoring an upset remains to be seen, but there’s no denying that the American fighter has a better chance in this fight compared to some of Golovkin’s recent opponents. Monroe’s game is built upon him surviving.

By Dan Ambrose: IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) wants to prove to fans that he can solve the southpaw and slick fighting style of challenger Willie Monroe (19-1, 6 KOs) on Saturday night on HBO.

Golovkin, 33, has shown that he can beat almost every style out there, but he hasn’t yet faced a slick fighter like Monroe. This is a much different type of an opponent compared to the guys that the hard hitting Golovkin has faced.

Up until now, Golovkin has mostly been matched against flat-footed fighters that came straight at him. He’s not had to face a slick fighter like the 28-year-old Monroe. For that reason we could see a much more average looking Golovkin on Saturday because he’s not going to have a slow, stationary fighter for him to get his shots off against.
