Golovkin to test his power on Geale

1-k2071614BBy Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennedy Golovkin (29-0, 26 KOs) is hoping that he can become the first fighter to officially stop Daniel Geale (30-2, 16 KOs) when they face each other this Saturday night on HBO.

Geale has been fighting 10 years as a pro, but no one during that time has ever come close to knocking him out during that entire time. But then again, Geale has never fought Golovkin before. This is going to be a whole new experience and test for Geale.

If he can survive the full 12 rounds, he’ll be the first guy in the past 5 years that has survived 12 rounds against Golovkin. Winning probably isn’t an option for Geale, but if he can just make finish on his feet, it would be saying a lot about him.

Golovkin needs to impress against Geale this Saturday

1-k2071614CBy Allan Fox: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KO’s) is in a situation where he not only needs to beat former IBF/WBA middleweight champion Daniel Geale (30-2, 16 KO’s) in their fight at Madison Square Garden in New York, but Golovkin needs to win an impressive manner by knocking the 33-year-old Geale out.

Golovkin needs to look good because he doesn’t have the built in fan base that more popular fighters like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Miguel Cotto and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr all have. Those are the guys that Golovkin would like to fight in the near future, but if he fails to keep winning in an overpowering way each time he fights, he’ll give them an excuse to avoid fighting him.

Geale expects to step up his game for Golovkin fight

TOM LOEFFLER: We are definitely excited about this event. I would like to thank some of the partners that we have for this event. Gary Shaw was very instrumental as Daniel Geale’s promoter for which we have a great-co-feature for this card at Madison Square Garden, the World’s Most Famous Arena, the Mecca of Boxing. We are very excited to be going into the big room for this fight. Without HBO and their financial support, we wouldn’t be able to put an event like this together. This is clearly the biggest test, the biggest name and the most experienced person that has been willing to get in the ring with Gennady, so far in his career. Geale is a two-time world champion – he won two world championship titles over in Germany, which is not the easiest thing to do. He beat two great fighters in Sturm and Stieglitz and the credentials he brings to the ring are impressive. We want to thank Gary and Team Geale for accepting the challenge. Gennady has been labeled as the fastest rising star in boxing and brings excitement every time he gets into the ring.

Golovkin: I want Cotto or Canelo after Geale fight

1-k2071614HBy Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KOs) says he’s weighing on 164 pounds with exactly 9 days to go before his title defense against wily veteran Daniel Geale (30-2, 16 KOs) on July 26th on HBO from Madison Square Garden in New York.

The interesting thing about Golovkin’s weight is he hasn’t even started to cut weight for the fight yet. He weighs only 4 pounds away from the 160 pound limit without even cutting weight. He’s not someone that is cutting from the 170s to squeeze down to 160 or worse, 154.

Kellerman: Geale’s life will be transformed if he beats Golovkin

golovkin63By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF/WBA middleweight champion Daniel Geale (30-2, 16 KOs) has a nearly impossible task in front of him this month when he faces WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KOs) on July 26th in a fight televised by HBO at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Next to no one is giving the 33-year-old Geale any chance in this fight because he’s arguably facing the best fighter in the middleweight division. Even guys like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Miguel Cotto have shown zero interest in wanting to get in the ring with Golovkin despite both of them weighing the same as him.

Golovkin is just someone that no one wants to tangle with right now due to his incredible punching power and excellent boxing skills.

Golvokin-Geale special on HBO tonight

golovkin677By Scott Gilfoid: HBO will be televising a preview of the July 26th fight between WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin vs. former IBF/WBA strap holder Daniel Geale tonight, called “Road to Golovkin/Geale” at 12:05 a.m. ET/PT on HBO. The special will cover the preparation of the two fighters as they get ready for their clash on 7/26 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

It’s not really what I would consider a “highly anticipated fight,” unless you’re a huge fan of the 33-year-old Geale. If you’re just a regular fan of the sport, you’re probably going to be mildly interested in the Geale-Golovkin fight because it’s basically a mismatch.

Geale was already beaten last year by Darren Barker, a fighter who would have had little chance of beating Golovkin himself. Geale has struggled against the likes of Felix Sturm and Anthony Mundine during his career. These are guys that would likely be easy pickings for Golovkin.

Geale needs more power to make a fight against Golovkin a competitive, fan-friendly one, but at 33, that power won’t be there on July 26th for the Australian fighter. As such, we’re talking mismatch 100 percent in this fight unless Golovkin has a really, really bad night. Considering that Golovkin never has bad nights, I’d have to say that Geale has next to no chance of winning this fight.

Geale: Golovkin has never fought an ex-world champion

golovkin677By Allan Fox: Former IBF/WBA middleweight champion Daniel Geale (30-2, 16 KO’s) sees the fact that he’s a former world champion as being too much for WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KO’s) in their fight this month on July 26th at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Golovkin has never been in with a former world title holder before, and Geale thinks he’ll be too much of a step up in class for Golovkin to handle in this fight.

Geale captured the IBF 160lb title with a narrow 12 round split decision over German fighter Sebastian Sylvester in 2011. A year later, Geale won the WBA Super World middleweight title in beating Felix Sturm by a 12 round split decision in 2012 in Germany. So beating Sylvester and Sturm was what gave Geale his two titles. He also has a win over 38-year-old Anthony Mundine from 2013 in beating him by a narrow 12 round decision.

I believe I’ve got what it takes to beat him [Golovkin], I believe I’m hungrier now and I believe they’re taking me for granted. I love that position,” Geale said. “I’m the underdog.

Soliman: Geale can beat Golovkin if he’s at his best

golovkin44By Dan Ambrose: IBF middleweight champion Sam Soliman thinks #3 WBA, #5 WBO Daniel Geale (30-2, 16 KO’s) has the kind of talent needed to pull off a huge upset this month in his title challenge against WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KO’s) on July 26th at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Soliman, who comes from Australia like Geale, believes that if he uses his speed along with his power, he can beat Golovkin in this fight.

Sanchez: We hope Geale will bring out the best in Golovkin

golovkin54(Photo credit: Abel Sanchez) By Allan Fox: Abel Sanchez, the trainer for WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KO’s), is hoping that former IBF/WBA middleweight champion Daniel Geale (30-2, 16 KO’s) doesn’t choose to run from Golovkin when they face each other next month on July 26th on HBO at Madison Square Garden in New York.

For the most part Golovkin’s past opponents have elected to fight him rather than run, but Geale is a fighter known for his movement. It stands to reason that he’ll use even more movement against a puncher like Golovkin than he’s ever used before in the past. What this means is that it could be a dull affair potentially with Golovkin having to chase Geale around the ring for 12 rounds unless Geale realizes that he’ll never win a fight like that.
