By Dan Ambrose: Gabriel Rosado (24-11, 14 KOs) did the job on the badly over-matched former high level prospect Glen Tapia (23-5, 15 KOs) last Thursday night in stopping him in the 6th round, and now he wants bigger game in Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Danny Jacobs or David Lemieux for his next fight.

Gabriel “King” Rosado (24-11, 14 KOs) earned himself another shot against the top ten of the middleweight division after stopping Glen “Jersey Boy” Tapia (23-5, 15 KOs) in the sixth round of the scheduled ten-round main event of the latest edition of Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN at Park Theater at Monte Carlo. Rosado, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, took the center of the ring at the start of the fight, asserting his veteran skills before landing a powerful lead left hook in the sixth round. The hook began a series of more blows that dropped the native of Passaic, New Jersey, who got to his feet once more before another flurry of punches forced the referee to end matters at 1:15 of the same round. Tapia was taken to the hospital shortly after the bout ended.

David Lemieux vs. Glen Tapia this Saturday on HBO PPV

Image: David Lemieux vs. Glen Tapia this Saturday on HBO PPV(Photo Credit: Hogan Photos/Golden Boy Promotions) By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-3, 31 Kos) will be looking to turn his career around this Saturday night against junior middleweight Glen Tapia (23-2, 15 KOs) in a 10 round fight in the co-feature bout on the undercard of the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Amir Khan card on HBO pay-per-view at 9:00 p.m. ET at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Lemieux will have a big size advantage over Tapia, and this fight figures to be a mismatch. Tapia hasn’t fought an entire year since his 4th round knockout loss to Michel Soro last year in May 2015. The fact Tapia hasn’t fought in 12 months makes you wonder about his love for the sport. Normally see older fighters taking long breaks after losses, not young fighters like Tapia. If Tapia loses on Saturday night, then I won’t be surprised if we see him disappear for another extended break from the sport.

De La Hoya: Lemieux-Tapia winner could face Canelo

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya revealed earlier today that the winner of the May 7th fight between former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs) and junior middleweight Glen Tapia (23-2, 15 KOs) could be in line to face WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) in the future at some point. It would be an impossible situation for Lemieux to fight Canelo in his special weight class of 155lbs. Lemieux couldn’t even make the recent catch-weight of 163lbs for his last fight. How is he going to melt down to Canelo’s 155lb weight division?

Judging by how things went for Lemieux in his recent fight against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, you would have to think that the fight will be taking place soon. Golden Boy can’t afford to wait too long before they match Lemieux with Canelo.

Canelo-Khan undercard fights

canelo945By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions is stacking the undercard for the May 7 Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Amir Khan card on HBO pay-per-view. They were unable to get the heavyweight match-up between interim WBA champion Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz vs. Alexander Ustinov. The undercard is a mixed bag with the wrong guys fighting each other, and in the case of David Lemieux, he’s fight a junior middleweight rather than a middleweight in Glen Tapia. How do you have a PPV card on HBO where the first two fights involve fighters facing smaller guys in what appear to be mismatches? That just strikes me as wrong. Lemieux should have been put in with Curtis Stevens, and Canelo should be fighting at least a middleweight.

Nevertheless, they were able to get the following fights: Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux vs. Glen Tapia, welterweight Mauricio Herrera vs. Frankie Gomez, and former middleweight world title challenger Curtis Stevens vs. Patrick Teixeira.
