Arum wrapping up Arthur Abraham vs. Gilberto Ramirez for Pacquiao-Bradley card

ramirez78By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is on the verge of finishing up on a deal that will see unbeaten #1 WBO Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (33-0, 24 KOs) facing WBO super middleweight champion Arthur “King Arthur” Abraham (44-4, 29 KOs) in the co-feature bout on the April 9 undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley 3 card on HBO pay-per-view.

The fight card will be staged at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Arum wants to load the undercard of the Pacquiao-Bradley fight with Mexican talent, and the 24-year-old Ramirez is just one of the names that Arum is looking to put on the card.

Besides that Abraham-Ramirez fight on the undercard, former IBF featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich will be facing two-time Mexican Olympian Oscar Valdez in a 10 round fight. Also on the card is 2012 U.S. Olympian Jose Carlos Ramirez (16-0, 12 KOs) facing journeyman Manuel Perez (25-11-1, 6 Kos) in a 10 round bout.

Sauerland wins Abraham-Ramirez purse bid

ramirez78By Chris Williams: In bad news for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley fight card for April 9th, promotional company Sauerland Events has won Wednesday’s purse bid in beating Top Rank’s bid to stage the title fight between WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-4, 29 KOs) and the Top Rank fighter Gilberto Ramirez (33-0, 24 KOs). Sauerland won the purse bid with a winning bid of $1, 563, 057 compared to Top Rank’s $1.5 million.

The Abraham-Ramirez fight could still wind up on the Pacquiao vs. Bradley 3 card, but it might be difficult to make that happen unless there’s enough money to go around for Abraham. If not, then the Abraham-Ramirez fight will be staged in Berlin, Germany on 4/9.

It’s important that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum get the Abraham vs. Ramirez fight for the Pacquiao-Bradley card, because they need a strong undercard to help interest the boxing fans to purchase the card on HBO PPV.

Arthur Abraham vs. Gilberto Ramirez possible for Pacquiao-Bradley undercard

abraham6By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is really looking to beef up the undercard of the April 9th Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley 3 fight card on HBO pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The latest fight that Arum is hoping to add to the undercard for the fight is a showdown between unbeaten #1 WBO Gilberto Ramirez (33-0, 24 KOs) and WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-4, 29 KOs).

Arum believes that the 24-year-old Ramirez can become popular like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Thus far, however, Ramirez remains a flawed fighter with an inflated resume of wins over weak opponents. Ramirez looks nowhere near the talent level of the 25-year-old Canelo.

Arum wants Golovkin to fight Gilberto Ramirez

1-GolovkinLemieux_Hoganphotos1By Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum wants IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) to move up in weight to 168 and fight his fighter #1 WBO, #2 WBA, #2 WBC, #3 IBF Gilberto Ramirez (32-0, 24 KOs) in 2016 if Ramirez wins his next fight against Gevorg Khatchikian (23-1, 11 KOs) on November 20th, and then beats the winner of the November 21st fight between WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham and #15 WBO Martin Murray.

Arum says that Ramirez will challenge the winner of the Abraham-Murray fight in March or April 2016.

Gilberto Ramirez vs. Juan Camilo Novoa on November 20th on truTV

ramirezBy Dan Ambrose: Undefeated super middleweight contender Gilberto Ramirez (32-0, 24 KOs)) will be facing 31-year-old Colombian Juan Camilo Novoa (25-6-1, 23 KOs) on November 20th on truTV at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Chelsea Ballroom in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ramirez is coming off of an easy 10 round unanimous decision win over Dereck Edwards last June.

Despite being unbeaten, Ramirez, 24, still hasn’t fought anyone that you can call a good fighter. He struggled to defeat Russian Maxim Vlasov by a 10 round unanimous decision last January.

Gilberto Ramirez beats Derek Edwards

ramirez78By Dan Ambrose: In an example of perfect match-making, Top Rank super middleweight Gilberto Ramirez (32-0, 24 KOs) defeated Derek Edwards (27-5-1, 14 KOs) by a dull 10 round unanimous decision on Friday night to stay unbeaten at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.

Ramirez won the fight by the scores of 100-90, 100-90 and 100-90. Ramirez hurt Edwards in the 4th and 8th rounds with big shots. He then flurried on him until growing arm weary.

Edwards, 5’9”, was simply too short to land his shots against the 6’2 ½” Ramirez.

Gilberto Ramirez to get tested by Derek Edwards on Friday

ramirezBy Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes his fighter super middleweight contender Gilberto Ramirez (31-0, 24 KOs) is a future superstar and the next huge star in the sport. Ramirez is fighting Derek Edward (27-4-1, 14 KOs) this Friday night in a 10-round bout at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas. The Ramirez-Edwards fight will be televised on truTV starting at 10 p.m. ET.

We’re going to find out very soon if the 6’3” Ramirez is the real deal that Arum thinks he is or if this is just wishful thinking by an aging promoter whose No.1 star in his stable Manny Pacquiao is nearing the end of his long 20-year pro career.

Arum: Golovkin needs to move to 168 for the big fights

golovkin7744By Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum thinks WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golokvin (33-0, 30 KOs) needs to forget about trying to get fights against Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez because he doesn’t see either of those fighters giving Golovkin the time of day.

Arum feels that they will make more money facing each other than facing a guy like Golovkin, who doesn’t bring the same kind of money to the table as they do for his fights. Arum thinks that HBO has been babying Golovkin by letting him fight lower level opposition without insisting that he fight the good fighters.
