Mikey too big for Juanma; beats him with size

garcia55By Dan Ambrose: You’ve got to feel a little bit sorry for Juan Manuel Lopez (33-3, 30 KO’s) tonight after his 4th round TKO loss to the much heavier looking Mikey Garcia (32-0, 27 KO’s) in Dallas, Texas. Mikey had failed to make weight the day earlier in giving up his WBO featherweight title on the scales.

It looked like Mikey had decided to either win the fight on size or lose the fight by making weight. Mikey chose to win, and he came in over the limit. I wish there was a scale to put Mikey on as he entered the ring because he looked at least 15-20 pounds heavier to me compared to Juanma. There was no way Juanma could beat a fighter as big as Mikey is; it wasn’t going to happen.

Mikey Garcia stops Juanma; Crawford defeats Sanabria

garcia4543By Jim Dower: Fighting without his WBO title that he lost on the scales last Friday, Mikey Garcia (32-0, 27 KO’s) had an easy time stopping former two division world champion Juan Manuel Lopez (33-3, 30 KO’s) in the 4th round on Saturday night at the American Airlines Center, in Dallas, Texas, USA. Garcia knocked Lopez down with a nice right hand in the 2nd.

In the 4th round, Mikey nailed a desperate Juanma with a left hook to the head that dropped him on the canvas. The fight was then halted by Raphael Ramos at 1:35 of the round.

Lopez was jabbing continuously in the first two rounds, and he finally realized in the 2nd that he couldn’t stay on the outside and have any chance of winning. Late in the 2nd, Lopez begin to press the attack but then walked into a right hand that knocked him down.

Garcia-Lopez: Last chance for Juanma?

lopez56By Eric Thomas: This Saturday night Juan Manuel Lopez (33-2, 30 KO’s) will be stepping inside the ring with WBO featherweight champion Mikey Garcia (31-0, 26 KO’s) at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

This is probably the biggest fight that the 29-yer-old Juanma could get right now, but it’s also one of the most dangerous ones for him because he’s lost two out of his last five fights and he looks like a shell of his former self.

Mikey Garcia is a dangerous puncher and an excellent counter puncher. He’s a nightmare fighter for someone like Lopez, who was beaten twice by Mikey victim Orlando Salido. Lopez took beatings both times in those fights and looked pretty well beaten both times.

Mikey Garcia vs. Juan Manuel Lopez Preview

292696_10151892329598243_926617020_nBy Peter Wells (twitter @boxingbrains): As Juan Manuel Lopez looks deep into the eyes of Mikey Garcia, he see’s an image of himself 26 months ago. He sees the hot prospect in Garcia, that once lay in himself.

He smiles at every complimentary word aimed towards Garcia, because not too long ago those identical praises were directed at him. But rather than feeling jealous of the favourite, he instead feels sympathy, and a hint of sadness.

Mikey Garcia has the goods to be an all time great!

garcia454By Hector Gonzalez: I’m going to say right now, Mikey Garcia is going to be an all time great and there is nothing that the haters can do about it. A seasoned boxing aficionado, one that knows what to look for, should be able to see the goods in this kid and it’s my personal opinion that Mikey is the top prospect in boxing at the moment.

Here are things that I see in Mikey that make him stand out above the rest. Lets look at Victor Ortiz for example, Victor Ortiz was and, in my opinion, still is a great prospect. Ortiz’s downfall though is his footwork, as from the beginning it was notable that he was not able to fight walking backwards or from angles. Mikey doesn’t seem to have that problem, Mikey’s footwork are always in position and shows greatly in his countering ability as he is always in position to counter.
