Image: Angel Garcia: Judah goes out in four!By Allan Fox Angel Garcia, the father of WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) wasn’t in the mood to show former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-3, 29 KO’s) any respect during their press conference this past week to promote the Garcia-Judah fight on February 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

When it came time for Angel Garcia to speak his thoughts on the fight at the podium in front of the press, Angel said “Every time he [Judah] stepped up he lost. So what is the point? He didn’t win when he fought Kostya Tszyu; that was his prime. He got clipped. That’s okay. That was his era, that was his time. This is a new era. We might be in Brooklyn. I feel for you all. It’s about Philly right now. Zab goes out in four. That’s a four round fight, he knows that. [Vernon] Paris. We used him for sparring. Danny knocked him down with the first punch. It took Zab 9 rounds to beat Paris.”

On February 7th, 2013, fans will be “treated” to a championship match brought to us by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, when undefeated WBA Super/WBC/Ring Magazine Super Lightweight champion Danny “Swift” Garcia returns to the ring to face former undisputed Welterweight champion Zab “Super” Judah.

Now, as much as it irks me to no end to see Zab receive yet another undeserved title shot, truth be told, that’s like the 5th thing wrong with this equation. Although I won’t go into a melatonin evoking tirade about them, I will however beg the question, why Judah? Why not Brandon Rios or Josesito Lopez? Or, here’s an idea. How about WBC mandatory challenger Lucas Matthysse?

Image: Peter Quillin vs. Jermain Taylor on Garcia-Judah undercard on 1/19By Dan Ambrose: Steve Kim is reporting on his twitter page that Golden Boy is setting up a card on January 19th headlined by WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) defending his titles against 34-year-old Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York, USA. On the undercard will be former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (31-4-1, 19 KO’s) facing WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin (28-0, 20 KO’s).

What’s so interesting about this card is that both fights involve past their prime fighters taking on guys – Garcia and Quillin – in the prime of their career. I’m not so excited about either fight, although I’m not surprised that the fights are being made because Golden Boy has a couple of vulnerable champions in Garcia and Quillin. They’ve got to match them carefully because if they put them in with the wrong opponent then neither of these fighters will be champions.

Image: Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah done for January 19thBy Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions has reportedly put together a fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) and 35-year-old former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) on January 19th next year at a venue still to be determined, according to Golden Boy Promotions. The fight will be televised by Showtime.

For hardcore boxing fans this isn’t the fight that they were hoping the 25-year-old Garcia would take. Judah is way past his prime and he was already destroyed by Garcia’s knockout victim Amir Khan last year in an easy 5th round knockout win. The hardcore fans realize that Judah stands no chance of wining this fight and will simply get knocked out without making a fight of it.

Image: Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah almost done for 1/19By Dan Ambrose: Whether you like it or not, WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) is poised to fight 35-year-old former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) in January of next year, according to Fightype.com. The Garcia-Judah fight, if you want to call it that, is almost done for January 19th in a fight that will be televised on HBO.

Of all the possible contenders available for the fight with Garcia, such as Brandon Rios, Lucas Matthysse, and Ajose Olusegun, this is the fight that Golden Boy Promotions wants to set up for him. It’s a pretty poor fight given how shot Judah is, but Golden Boy appears to be betting that the casual boxing fans and to a certain extent the hardcore fans will want to see this match.

Richard Schaefer, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, says they have two possible opponents that they’re currently looking at for that fight but he’s not saying who those fighters are.

However, Schaefer already tipped his hand at the Garcia – Erik Morales press conference last Saturday night by mentioning 34-year-old Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) as someone that Golden Boy is considering for that fight. Judah is from Brooklyn, so it’s a natural for him to be selected.

You can’t really blame Golden Boy for wanting to milk Garcia’s title run because Matthysse is good enough to possibly beat Garcia, and that’s not good business for Golden Boy to have Garcia beaten. He’s quickly becoming a little money maker for Golden Boy, and who knows?
