Danny Garcia won’t try to outdo Thurman’s performance against Guerrero

garcia4556By Dan Ambrose: #2 WBC Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) says his plan isn’t to try and outdo what WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman did in his performance against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) when the two of them face each other next month on January 23rd at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California.

Thurman totally dominated Guerrero in beating him by a 12 round unanimous decision last March in winning by the scores of 120-107, 118-109 and 118-108 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Thurman knocked Guerrero down in the 9th round and had him badly hurt.

However, Thurman didn’t really start to dominate until the 5th, when he began to use movement to keep from getting hit. In the first four rounds of the fight, Thurman stood directly in front of Guerrero and traded with him, and Thurman took a lot of hard shots.

Rosado: Danny Garcia will blowout Robert Guerrero

garcia74By Dan Ambrose: Fresh off his win over the way past his best 35-year-old Paulie Malignaggi in August of this year, unbeaten #2 WBC welterweight contender Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) will be fighting next month on January 23rd against 32-year-old #6 WBC Robert Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The Garcia-Guerrero fight will be shown on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox. Middleweight Gabriel Rosado sees this fight as a one-sided blowout for the 5’8” Garcia. Rosado doesn’t say why he feels it will be a blow out other than him thinking that Garcia is a super talented fighter.

Garcia didn’t blowout his last opponent Malignaggi or his opponent before that in Lucas Matthysse. The guys that Garcia has blown out in recent years were smaller fighters than himself like little Rod Salka, a lightweight dragged up to welterweight to fight him, and an aging Erik Morales.

Robert Guerrero: Doesn’t see his fight against Danny Garcia as last chance

guerrero45(Photo credit: Idris Erba/Premier Boxing Champions) By Dan Ambrose: Despite his #6 ranking with the WBC, it’s pretty much the end of the line for Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) if he loses his fight against unbeaten but struggling Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) in their fight next month on 1/23 on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox Deportes at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Guerrero, 33, has lost 2 out of his last 4 fights in the last two years, and some boxing fans feel that he’s lost 3 out of his last 4 fights. Guerrero was given a controversial 10 round split decision over high level journeyman Aaron Martinez in his last fight in June.

Danny Garcia battles Robert Guerrero on 1/23 on PBC

garcia564By Dan Ambrose: In a predictable fight, unbeaten #2 WBC, #4 WBA welterweight contender Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) will be matched up against the struggling light punching #6 WBC, #14 WBA Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) in a 12 round bout on January 23rd on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox Deportes next year from the Staples Center in Los Angles, California.

A lot of boxing fans predicted this fight a long time ago, because both guys are with Al Haymon, and both of them are fighting in a division where they don’t really match-up well against the other fighters. It’s still a good watchable fight for fans. It’s just not quite as good a match-up as it could be if Garcia were put in with someone with punching power to hurt him.
