Groves wants third fight against Froch

groves#1By Scott Gilfoid: George Groves (19-2, 15 KO’s) fought well enough for the first 7 rounds to be essentially knotted up with IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KO’s) last night, but then he royally blew it by backing up to the ropes like a 3-fight novice and got blasted out by Froch in getting knocked out in front of a partially filled 80,000 seat stadium at Wembley. Now Groves is saying he’d like another crack at Froch for a third fight between them.

“I’d love another chance. I don’t think I can’t beat Carl Froch, and I just sold out Wembley Stadium,” Groves said to IFL TV. “I’m sure I’ll become a world champion. It’s going to be the quickest route rather than the easiest route.”

Froch vs. Groves – Preview

froch55By Dan Henderson: This Saturday night live from London, England we will see the highly anticipated rematch between George Groves and Carl Froch. The altitude of this event has reached epic levels due to the controversy surrounding the first bout in which Froch had won via stoppage after being pretty second best through out the contest even getting knocked down in the first round.

Some say the stoppage was early some say it wasn’t but I’m off the opinion that it was stopped marginally early due to the fact that Froch had Groves in trouble and with a few more seconds could have made the stoppage a more conclusive one.

Froch says third fight with Groves possible

froch1111By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) has yet to step inside the ring with George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) for their second fight and already Froch is talking about maybe getting in the ring with him for a third fight. Froch can see himself doing such a think if he loses his two straps on Saturday night. With the British boxing public very interested in seeing these two guys go at it, Froch says a trilogy fight is possible.

“Who knows? I expect to stop Groves but what if I had lost a fantastic fight? Maybe that would mean trilogy fight in front of another sell-out crowd at the National Stadium,” Froch said via the Dailymail.co.uk.

Groves expects to mow Froch down in 3 rounds

groves78899By Scott Gilfoid: George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) doesn’t plan on wasting a minute of time on May 31st when he gets a second shot at IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s). Groves wants to pounce on Froch and knock him out straightway to make sure that the referee, whoever it ends up being, has no chance to intercede and put his own royal stamp on the fight.

Groves is a little bit jaded from the last time he fought Froch in November last year. Groves was having his way for move of the fight until the referee abruptly stopped the fight moments after Froch shoulder bumped Groves into the ropes. The referee perhaps didn’t see that Froch rammed into Groves instead of punching him. The force of the shoulder bump knocked Groves back several feet to the ropes at which the referee stopped the fight following several wind milling misses from Froch.

Groves: I’ll put Froch to sleep if he punches me outside of the ring

groves455By Scott Gilfoid: George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) wants IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) to be officially reprimanded by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) for Froch having given him a shove at their pre-fight press conference at the Wembley Stadium two weeks ago to announce their fight on May 31st in London, UK. Groves is concerned that Froch may choose to put hands on him again during their face offs in the next month.

The last thing that Groves wants is for Froch to take a shot at him which would cause him to fire back with a punch to the head of Froch, causing bloodshed. Groves is saying that he’ll knock Froch out if he punches himself out of the ring.

“If I have to meet him 3 or 4 times before and do a face off with him, I don’t want to be standing there with him waiting for him to throw a punch at me, because if he throws a punch at me, I’ll put him to sleep and where does that leave me?” Groves said to IFL TV.

Groves wants British Boxing Board to overturn his defeat to Froch

groves02020By Scott Gilfoid: Super middleweight contender George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) is appealing to the British Boxing Board of Control (BBB of C) to try and have his 9th round stoppage loss to IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch overturned and ruled a no contest due to the referee Howard John Foster halting the fight in what he feels was prematurely. Groves and Froch fought last November 23rd in Manchester, UK.

Groves dominated the first 7 rounds, but he was slightly hurt from a wild right hand from Froch in the 9th. At that point, Froch bum rushed him and threw a flurry of shots with almost every punch missing. Referee Howard John Foster then jumped on Groves, putting him in a head lock and stopping the fight.

Groves in a bad position in Froch rematch

groves02020(Referee Howard John Foster putting a textbook headlock on George Groves in stopping his fight with Carl Froch last November) By Scott Gilfoid: #6 IBF, George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) might be better off forgetting about a rematch with IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) unless he’s okay with accepting an 85-15 purse split of what could be a 10 million pound purse for the fight. In other words, Froch would wind up getting 85% of the purse due to Groves being ranked at #6 by the IBF instead of #1, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. If Groves had the #1 ranking by the IBF, his purse would be large at 25% at 75-25 with Froch getting the lion’s share.

Groves had hoped that the International Boxing Federation would decide on making the rematch between him and Froch a 75-25 split. Unfortunately, the IBF decided on Thursday that all Groves’ split will be is a measly 85-15.

Froch reluctant to give Groves a rematch

froch777By Scott Gilfoid: Once again IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) says he doesn’t see the point in giving George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) a rematch to clear up the controversy of their fight last month on November 23rd at the Phones 4U Arena in Manchester, UK.

In Froch’s mind, the referee Howard John Foster did the right thing in jumping in between the two fighters and halting the fight in the 9th round. Froch thinks Groves was badly hurt and about to be legitimately stopped by him if not for Foster halting the fight.

Froch thinks that one of the reasons why Groves wants a rematch is due to the big payday he’d get to fight him again, and Froch doesn’t want to give him that payday because he feels he’s not been respectful of him. Groves says he had to be that way to sell the fight, but Froch doesn’t seem to realize that and he’s using that as one of his excuses for not giving him s rematch.

Groves: I’m the biggest fight for Froch

groves63By Scott Gilfoid: Poor George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s). He was royally robbed of what would likely have ended up as a victory over the aging IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) last month when the referee Howard John Foster jumped in between a perfectly competitive fight and halted it and gave Froch a knockout win.

It was such a blunder by the referee, and to add insult to injury, Froch got in a couple of free shots while the referee was in the act of stopping it.

Now Groves is pretty much out in the cold as far as getting a rematch.

Groves looking to force Froch to fight him

groves111By Scott Gilfoid: George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) says he’s looking to force his way back into a mandatory position to face Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s) if he doesn’t willingly give him a rematch. Groves doesn’t expect Froch to agree to a second fight.

Groves isn’t saying what he’ll be doing to force the issue, but it probably involves some kind of appeal to have a rematch ordered based on the controversial stoppage by referee Howard John Foster last month when Foster abruptly halted the fight in the 9th round and gave Froch a stoppage win over Groves.
