Deontay Wilder – Eric Molina to be announced on Thursday

deontay1By Scott Gilfoid: This Thursday on May 14th a news conference is scheduled for the announcement of the June 13th fight between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) and challenger Eric Molina (23-2, 17 KOs). The fight will be taking place on Showtime Championship Boxing from the Bartow Arena, in Birmingham, Alabama, USA.

With this being a voluntary defense for the 6’7” Wilder, he’s choosing a lower level ranked contender in 33-year-old Molina. But this is a perfectly suitable opponent for a voluntary defense because Molina has the kind of fire power and talent to make it an interesting fight.

Deontay Wilder expects his June 13th fight against Eric Molina to be announced this week

deontay201(Photo credit: Hoganphotos/Golden Boy Promotions) By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s next fight for June 13th to be announced this week. The lucky opponent is likely to be #12 WBC Eric Molina. If the fight does get made as Deontay expects it to be, it’ll give him a great opponent for him to show off his stuff in front of boxing fans.

The Wilder-Molina fight will likely be televised on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC, and that will give the talented 6’7” Deontay a lot of visibility. We’re probably talking about at least 2 million fans will be tuning in to watch Deontay do his thing against the 6’4” Molina. What more can you ask for?

deontay32 - Copy (2)By Gav Duthie: The curse of the voluntary defence strikes again. Like a coiled snake the champion is picking on the weakest prey available to strike on when the choice is given. After Deontay Wilder 33-0 (32) became the first American since 2006 to win a heavyweight world title he talked Klitschko, he talked Fury and 5 months later the rumors are that he is going to fight Eric Molina 23-2 (17).

Voluntary defence

I feel like a broken record talking about voluntary defences but it is with justification. The idea is to not impose a mandatory on a brand new champion so as to give them a choice.
