Stevenson vs. Williams card loses Alvarez-Dawson

stevenson22

By Patrick McHugh: The July 29th fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson vs. Thomas Williams Jr. took a bit hit earlier today with the news that the co-feature bout between unbeaten #1 WBC Eleider Alvarez and Chad Dawson won’t be taking place.

The 34-year-old former world champion Dawson suffered a shoulder injury during training camp and had to pull out of the fight with the unbeaten Alvarez. The promoter for the card, Yvon Michel, is looking for a replacement to step in and face Alvarez, who will remain in the co-feature spot.

It’s pretty important that that the 32-year-old Alvarez remains in the co-feature spot because he’s going to be facing the 38-year-old Stevenson soon or Williams Jr. if he beats Stevenson.

Chad Dawson vs. Eleider Alvarez on July 29

dawson4545

By Patrick McHugh: Unbeaten #1 WBC light heavyweight contender Eleider Alvarez (19-0, 10 KOs) will be facing former IBF/WBC 175lb champion Chad Dawson (34-4, 19 KOs) on July 29 on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV from the Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The Alvarez vs. Dawson fight will be the co-feature bout on the Adonis Stevenson (27-1, 22 KOs) vs. Thomas Williams Jr. (20-1, 14 KOs) card.

It’s hard to see Dawson being able to being able to take Alvarez’s big shots. Dawson has shown to have a chin problem in fights against Andre Ward, Stevenson and Karpency. Alvarez doesn’t have the same kind of power that Stevenson does, but he appears to be a bigger puncher than Ward.

It stands to reason that if Dawson couldn’t handle the power of Ward, he probably won’t be able to take the power of Alvarez for long without getting knocked out. Dawson used to be a very good defensive fighter during the early part of his career.

Allan Fox: IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (22-1, 14 KOs) won a controversial 12 round unanimous decision over former IBF 168lb champion Lucian Bute (32-3, 25 KOs) on Saturday night at the Vidéotron Centre in Quebec City, in Quebec, Canada. The final judges’ scores were 116-112, 117-111 and 117-111. DeGale appeared to lost the last five rounds of the fight. I had the fight scored a 12 round draw.

The scoring was controversial because it was difficult to give DeGale any of the rounds after the 7th, because he was moving constantly and getting nailed by Bute.
