By Dan Ambrose: The long awaited match between IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) and Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) is only 16 days away for their fight on April 23 on HBO from the Forum in Inglewood, California.
This is one of those rare fights where both guys are going into the match undefeated. Wade, 25, is a lot younger than the 34-year-old Golovkin, but his youth isn’t necessarily a good thing in this case.
By Jeff Aranow: Unbeaten #3 IBF Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) will be facing IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) in less than three weeks from now on April 23 on HBO Championship Boxing from the Forum in Inglewood, California.
Wade, 25, sees this fight as a tremendous opportunity for him and he intends on taking advantage of that opportunity by beating the powerful 34-year-old Golovkin. Wade doesn’t see anything special when he looks at Golovkin’s fights other than his punching power, and he feels he’s very beatable. He says he’s going to beat him on April 23rd and then move on with his win to get bigger fights out there.
By Dan Ambrose: It’s not looking like IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) is going to give into Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s wish to have his fight against Golovkin staged at a catch-weight of 155lbs later this year.
Golovkin says that if Canelo must fight at 155, then he’s welcome to go ahead and fight at that weight, but he’s going to fight at the full weight of 160lbs for the middleweight division. Golovkin will not be giving Canelo a handicap by melting down to 155lbs in order to give him the advantage, even though Golovkin says he’s been weighing in at 164 and 165 recently.
Golovkin would only need to drop 10 pounds to take the fight at 155 for Canelo. However, Golovkin is an old school fighter, and he doesn’t believe in fighting at catch-weights.
By Jim Dower: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) and challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) were both on target with their weights at the 30-day weigh-in this week for their fight on April 23 at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
Golovkin weighed in at an unbelievable 164lbs for the 30-day weigh-in. Wade, 25, came in much heavier at 175.6.bs. The World Boxing Council mandates that their fighters weigh-in 30 days prior to their fights in order to make sure their weight is within target range to make weight. Both Wade and Golovkin made weight.

By Jeff Aranow: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) needs an impressive performance in his fight against challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) on April 23 to help increase interest in a summer fight against WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders, because the British are going to be watching Golovkin’s fight against Wade on BoxNation.
I know that Golovkin would like to fight WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez next, but that fight cannot happen until later this year in September possibly. Canelo has a fight on May 7 against Amir Khan, and after that fight, Canelo will want to rest and take it easy for a number of months while he heals up.
By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez says he doesn’t know precisely what unbeaten IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) will be bringing to the table for their fight next month on April 23. However, if Wade comes to fight hard, then Sanchez believes the fight will be over by the 4th round at the latest.
Sanchez know what to expect from the 25-year-old Wade, because all he has to go on is his recent fight against 42-year-old Sam Soliman last June. Sanchez thinks Wade didn’t have the motivation in that fight as he does now with him fighting for multiple world titles against Golovkin.
By Dan Ambrose: Tickets for IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s next fight on April 23 are selling very fast. According to Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, over 10,000 tickets have already been purchased for Golovkin’s next fight against the unbeaten Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
The Forum has a seating capacity of 17,505, and Loeffler expects the fight to be a sellout like Golovkin’s last fight against David Lemieux last October at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The Golovkin-Wade fight will be televised on HBO Championship Boxing on 4/23. Along with the Golovkin vs. Wade fights, fans will be seeing WBC flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (44-0, 38 KOs) battling it out against fringe contender McWilliams Arroyo, 16-2 (14KO’s) in the co-feature bout.
By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) says he sees nothing in the game of IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) that makes him think that he’s a special fighter.
Wade, 25, agrees with what Floyd Mayweather Jr. said recently when he commented that there are no special effects with Golovkin. Mayweather says Golovkin is straight up and down and he’s convinced that he would beat him if he came back and took the fight with the 34-year-old Kazakhstan fighter. Mayweather isn’t interested in making a comeback to face Golovkin, however.

Malignaggi sees Golovkin’s constant pressure as something that would drive a fighter crazy to be on the receiving end of that experience for a full 12 rounds, because it forces that fighter to be focused constantly without let up. There’s nonstop danger in a fight against Golovkin because he’s always there directly in front of his opponents looking to take their heads off with each shot he throws.
