Rogelio Medina: I want a rematch with James DeGale

James DeGale vs Rogelio MedinaBy Scott Gilfoid: Rogelio Medina (36-7, 30 KOs) lost his fight last night against IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (23-1, 14 KOs), but the fans felt differently about the outcome of the fight with many of them feeling that Medina had done enough to deserve the decision at the DC Armory in Washington, DC.

Medina wants a rematch because he thinks he should have gotten the decision. Medina wants a rematch. DeGale didn’t say anything about wanting to fight Medina again. I can’t blame DeGale if he never fights the 27-year-old Medina again because this guy seems to have his number. Medina threw an incredible 1,140 punches in the fight. When was the last time you saw a fighter throw that many punches and wind up losing?

James DeGale beats Rogelio Medina

James DeGale vs Rogelio Medina(Photo credit: Esther Lin/SHOWTIME) By Jim Dower: IBF super middleweight champion James “Chunky” DeGale (23-1, 14 KOs) had to work hard to defeat mandatory challenger Rogelio Medina (36-7, 30 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night in Showtime’s de facto tournament at the DC Armory in Washington, DC.

The final judges’ scores were 115-113, 117-111 and 117-111. The scores were wider than you would believe by watching the fight. Medina appeared to win at least five rounds. 117-111 didn’t give Medina credit for the good work he did in many of the rounds.

James DeGale vs. Rogelio Medina tonight on Showtime

James DeGaleBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (22-1, 14 KOs) will be defending his title tonight against Rogelio Medina (36-6, 30 KOs) in what is supposed to be an easy fight for the 30-year-old DeGale at the DC Armory in Washington, DC. Nevertheless, when you see DeGale fight, you realize there is no such thing as an easy fight for him. He lacks the punching power to have an easy time against level A fighters.

DeGale can blast out the second tier variety guys, but he doesn’t have the pop in his punches to destroy guys with true rankings in the top 10. I am not talking about fighters with gift rankings that make no sense at all. I’m talking about real contenders with true talent and good chins. DeGale cannot KO those guys because he doesn’t have the kind of power needed to get the job done.

James DeGale faces Rogelio Medina on Saturday

DeGale Jack Bute Medina(Photo credit: Esther Lin/SHOWTIME) By Scott Gilfoid:: IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (22-1, 14 KOs) will be defending his title against Rogelio “Porky” Medina (36-6, 30 KOs) on Showtime this Saturday from the DC Armory in Washington, DC.

DeGale has big dreams of unifying the belts at 168 and then moving up to the 175lb division to go after the top names in that weight class. I don’t know if DeGale is going to make it that far though. He’s facing a pretty tough road block on Saturday in the form of the hard hitting 27-year-old Medina.

DeGale-Medina & Badou-Bute next Saturday

bute5By Jeff Aranow:
Next Saturday night on April 30, IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (22-1, 14 KOs) will be defending his title against mandatory Rogelio Medina (36-6, 30 KOs), and WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (20-1-1, 12 KOs) will be battling former IBF world champion Lucian Bute (32-3, 25 KOs) in a doubleheader on Showtime Championship Boxing from the Armory, in Washington, District of Columbia.

The winner of these two fights will be facing each other later this year in a unification fight. Most experts expect DeGale and Badou to emerge as the winners of these two contests, but you never know. Bute, 36, showed last November that he still has a lot left in the tank in his close 12 round decision loss to DeGale in Quebec.

DeGale wants unification fight in September in UK

Image: DeGale wants unification fight in September in UKBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (22-1, 14 KOs) is hoping to fight a unification fight this September in the UK against the winner of the April 30 fight between WBC 168lb champion Badou Jack and Lucian Bute. DeGale, 30, has to win his fight on the same date against his mandatory challenger Rogelio Medina (36-6, 30 KOs) at the Armory, in Washington, District of Columbia.

DeGale is calling himself a “road warrior” because he’s fought his last two fights outside of his home country of the UK in fighting in the U.S against Andre Dirrell and then in Quebec against Lucian Bute. DeGale won both of those fights, but they were definitely close affairs. They weren’t close to poor scoring from the judges. They were close because DeGale didn’t have the talent needed to beat Dirrell and Bute soundly.

DeGale has a title defense scheduled for next month against #3 IBF Rogelio Medina (36-3, 30 KOs) on Showtime Boxing from the Armory, in Washington, District of Columbia. This fight will be part of a doubleheader with the other fight being WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack defending his title against former IBF champ Lucian Bute. DeGale wants Badou Jack unification fight in September

degale (2)By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (22-1, 14 KOs) needs to win his next fight against his IBF mandatory challenger Rogelio Medina (36-6, 30 KOs) on April 30 to be able to face WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (20-1-1, 12 KOs) later this year in September in a unification fight that DeGale, 30, is hoping will take place in the UK at the O2 Arena in London rather than in a neutral site that would be fair for both fighters.

Badou, 32, will be fighting on the same card on April 23 as DeGale, and he’ll be facing arguably the better challenger in #8 WBC Lucian Bute (32-3, 25 KOs). This is going to be a tough fight for Badou, because Bute showed last November in his fight against DeGale that he still has a lot left in the tank.
