By Scott Gilfoid: Badou Jack (20-1-3, 12 KOs) has official vacated his WBC super middleweight title, according to the World Boxing Council. This move was not unexpected, as Jack, 32, had said that he planned on vacating the title last Saturday night after his 12 round draw against IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (23-1-1, 14 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Jack wants to move up to light heavyweight title challenge the top fighters in that weight class. Jack’s promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr. has immediate plans to have him fight WBC 175lb champion Adonis Stevenson in June.

By Scott Gilfoid: As far as Badou Jack is concerned, he whipped IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale last Saturday night, and there’s no point in them fighting a rematch. The judged that were assigned to the DeGale-Jack fight scored it a 12 round draw last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Jack, 33, finished the fight looking like the winner with him dropping DeGale in round 12, knocking out some of his front teeth, and busting his eardrum. It was a methodical beating that Jack inflicted on the 30-year-old DeGale.

What now for James DeGale?

Image: What now for James DeGale?

By Adam Godfrey: Following their enthralling majority draw in Brooklyn this weekend, questions regarding British Super-Middleweight James DeGale’s next career move abound. The clamor for a swift rematch is readily apparent, with many fans eager to see a clear winner determined after what was a very tight battle between the two.

As an aside, I would hope that fight fans were content to see Boxing represented with with a to-and-fro humdinger between a pair of evenly matched opponents at the top of their game, and see the majority draw decision as a reflection of a close fight rather than a controversial one. A Super-fight it may not have been, but both pugilists gave World Class Boxing a welcome shot in the arm. With this in mind, what are the options for DeGale in the near future?

DeGale v Jack: The Aftermath

Image: DeGale v Jack: The Aftermath

By Gav Duthie: In many ways it’s like the James DeGale vs. Badou Jack fight never happened, no belts have changed hands nobody wins, nobody loses but for those guys in there and anyone lucky enough to watch it you know that was one hell of a fight.

The decision to score the fight a draw and the post-fight comments particularly from Jack himself and promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr. have raised more questions than answers. Was Jack robbed? Will we get a rematch? Is Jack moving up to light heavyweight? What happens with the WBC title? Where do the fighters go next?

Image: Badou Jack vs. Adonis Stevenson in June says Mayweather

By Eric Baldwin: Floyd Mayweather Jr. says his fighter WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (20-1-3, 12 KOs) will be moving up to light heavyweight for his next fight to challenger WBC 175lb champion Adonis Stevenson in June. Mayweather says that a rematch between Jack, 32, and IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (23-1-1, 14 KOs) can take place, but it will need to take place in the light heavyweight division, because that’s the weight class Jack is moving up to.

DeGale and Jack fought to a 12 round draw last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Mayweather is not happy about the draw, as he thought that his fighter Jack won the fight EASILY.

James DeGale vs. Badou Jack – Results

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion James “Chunky” DeGale (24-1-1, 14 Kos) fought to a controversial 12 round draw on Saturday night against IBF 168lb champion Badou Jack (20-1-3, 12 KOs) on Showtime Championship Boxing at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Jack appeared to win the fight after knocking DeGale down in round 12. However, the judges scored the fight 114-112, 113-113, and 113-113. Boxing News 24 scored the fight 8 rounds to 4 in favor of Badou. I thought the scoring was atrocious, but it’s not surprising to me that DeGale, arguably the more popular fighter, got a draw out of the fight. I figured that Jack needed a knockout anyway to get the win, and I guess I was right.

Hearn says DeGale could win every round against Jack

By Scott Gilfoid: James DeGale’s promoter Eddie Hearn doesn’t see tonight’s 168lb unification fight between DeGale and WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (20-1-2, 12 KOs) as being a competitive one at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The fight is seen as a 50-50 affair by most boxing fans, but not to Hearn. In his view, DeGale wins ever round of the 12-round fight, and likely stops the 33-year-old Jack. DeGale isn’t seen as a big puncher, and he only rarely scores knockouts.

Jack weighed in slightly more at 167 ¼ pounds. By the time the two fighters rehydrate for Saturday night’s fight, Jack should be the bigger guy. DeGale doesn’t tend to put a lot of weight on between them.

Badou Jack: I’m better than James DeGale

Image: Badou Jack: I'm better than James DeGale

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack isn’t too worried about his fight this Saturday night against IBF belt holder James DeGale, as he feels he’s got the superior talent to give the British fighter his second loss of his career.

Jack is a little older than DeGale at 33, but he still feels very young, and he’s not worried about being three years older than the 30-year-old IBF champ. Badou (20-1-2, 12 KOs) still sees himself as the better fighter, and he’s going to be looking to prove that when the two 168lb champions step inside the ring on Saturday, January 14 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
