Canelo vs. Cotto? Not interested

cotto77By B.G.B: Oscar Dela Hoya is evidently ecstatic about the likely match up between Saul Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto. In fact, Dela Hoya is so excited that he has gone as far as to say that it is a fight that fans would rather witness than the super-mega fight between the two best fighters of a generation; Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Although a fight between Cotto and Alvarez would be a big fight in terms of PPV, Dela Hoya’s statement is utterly absurd and inaccurate. What planet is Dela Hoya living on if he truly stands by that statement?

Bradley could fight Canelo-Cotto winner, says Arum

bradley677By Dan Ambrose: Rather than Gennady Golovkin getting the winner of next year’s mega fight between Saul “Canel” Alvarez and Miguel Cotto, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says that his fighter Tim Bradley (31-1, 12 KOs) could very well be the one that faces the winner of Cotto-Canelo instead of the hard hitting Golovkin. Arum says that Bradley wants that fight, and he feels it’s an easy one to make.

The big question is how would the tiny 5’6” Bradley be able to compete against sluggers as big and as powerful as Cotto or Canelo? There’s also the question of whether Bradley would even deserve the fight. Unless the Canelo-Cotto winner is going to vacate the WBC middleweight title, they’d be defending it against a welterweight instead of a middleweight.

GBP makes offer to Cotto for Canelo fight

cotto563By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions has reportedly met with Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31 KO’s) and made him a $10 million offer to face former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) for a fight on Showtime pay-per-view next May, according to Fightnews.com. There’s no word about whether the 33-year-old Cotto will accept the fight or not.

Cotto has an option of fighting WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez or his 160 lb. title. Cotto also has a chance of getting picked out by Floyd Mayweather Jr. for a rematch of their fight last year where Cotto gave him a lot of problems. Cotto also has the less appealing possibilities of fighting the winner of the Erislandy Lara vs. Austin Trout or facing IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina for his title.

Arum talks Cotto-Canelo fight

canelo544By Dan Ambrose: Miguel Cotto’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank says that he’ll look to negotiate with Golden Boy Promotions for a fight between Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez if Canelo is still under contract with Golden Boy and if that’s the fight that Cotto wants next or in the near future.

Arum isn’t sure of Canelo’s status as far as his promoter goes, but he’s open to negotiations for a fight with him and Cotto if that’s the direction Cotto wants to take. Right now they’re talking about a Cotto vs. Sergio Martinez fight next June for Martinez’s WBC middleweight title, but that fight is still in the talking stage and no definite.
