After starting out his career winning his first 32 fights, Cotto has lost two out of his last four fights, both by knockouts. Recently, Cotto signed on legendary trainer Emanuel Steward to start training him for his next bout against World Boxing Association light middleweight champion Yuri Foreman on June 5th at Yankee Stadium, in New York.

Miguel Cotto: Can he win?

Image: Miguel Cotto: Can he win?By PHILIP H. ANSELMO: The biggest question going into the Miguel Cotto-Yuri Foreman fight is not whether Cotto can win, it’s how much left is there of the former WBA/WBO welterweight champ? Is his chin permanently dented? Is there any way he can reclaim, or refine his boxing style under the tutelage of Emanuel Steward enough to both, win the fight and/or do it in impressive enough fashion to legitimately be “back” as a viable threat at Jr. middleweight?

Yuri Foreman is making history!

By Sam Gregory: On June 5th undefeated Yuri Foreman 28-0 with 8 KO’s will defend his WBA light middleweight crown against Miguel Cotto 34-2 with 27 KO’s at Yankee Stadium in a scheduled 12 round bout that is promoted by Bob Arum. Miguel Cotto is certainly known for the large Puerto Rican following he has in and around New York City but Yuri told me he expects a very large Jewish crowd to show up to cheer for the future Rabbi. Along with his wife, Yuri currently makes his home in Brooklyn just across the Whitestone Bridge from the Bronx.

The stadium, which is normally used to house the New York Yankees baseball team, will be retrofitted to fit “between 30,000 and 35,000 fans,” according to news from CBS Sports. This is perhaps an ambitious number for a fight that matches Cotto, a fighter who was recently beaten to a pulp by Manny Pacquiao in his last fight in November.

Can Cotto win back respect if he beats Foreman?

Image: Can Cotto win back respect if he beats Foreman?By Eric Torres: As an avid fan of boxing it pains me to see the the lack of respect a fighter can lose when he has gone through a tough time. The case is no different with Miguel Cotto, whose career and resume reads far more superior in MY OPINION to any of the welterweights out there (except Manny Pacquiao). If you do some research and compare you will see that that statement is not far off.

Will Foreman put Cotto out of his misery?

Image: Will Foreman put Cotto out of his misery?By William Mackay: I hate to say it but I think WBA light middleweight champion Yuri Foreman is going to put former World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto out of his misery on June 12th, at the Yankee Stadium, in New York.

The only good thing that I can think of that outcome is that at least Cotto will likely have a huge crowd to see if for what could be his last fight of his career. That’s a great way for Cotto to go out.

Cotto vs. Foreman at Yankee Stadium: Does this fight belong there?

Image: Cotto vs. Foreman at Yankee Stadium: Does this fight belong there?By Chris Williams: Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s) has had a good career, winning a WBO welterweight title and beating some quality fighters during his career in Paulie Malignaggi, Zab Judah and Shane Mosley. However, as of recent times, Cotto hasn’t looked so great, getting stopped by Antonio Margarito in the 11th round after taking a couple of knees, and getting taken apart by Manny Pacquiao in a 12th round stoppage loss in November. In fact, the loss to Pacquiao was Cotto’s last fight.
