Golovkin’s focus is on Eubank Jr. for UK fight

golovkin901

By Dan Ambrose: With the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight now officially off the table until 2017, per Golden Boy Promotions, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) and his promoter Tom Loeffler will now focus their energy on making an important fight against British fighter Chris Eubank Jr. for September in the UK.

Golovkin, 34, is willing to travel to the UK to fight Eubank Jr. in his home country if the match is a big enough one for him to do that. Eubank Jr’s promoter Eddie Hearn believes that the Golovkin fight is big enough to stick it in a stadium.

That would obviously make it worthwhile for Golovkin, because he hasn’t had the opportunity as of yet to fight in front of a huge stadium level crowd. This would be a big deal for Triple G, and it would help increase his star power. Eubank Jr. and his father Chris Eubank Sr. have done a lot of talking recently about the Golovkin fight, and they both seem to be extremely confident they can beat him.

Eubank Jr: I see holes in Golovkin’s game I can exploit

eubank34

By Dan Ambrose: Chris Eubank Jr. (22-1, 17 KOs) has seen enough of IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s past fights to see a number of flaws in his game that he believes he CAN and WILL exploit in September if they face each other. Eubank Jr. sees nothing special about Golovkin, and he plans on proving that to the boxing world.

Eubank Jr. doesn’t think Golovkin can match his hand speed, work rate, high intensity style of fighting, and his youth. Like Floyd Mayweather Jr., Eubank Jr. sees nothing extraordinary about Golovkin. To be sure, Eubank Jr. respects Golovkin and rates him as a very good fighter, but not so good that he can’t beat him to claim the No.1 spot as the best middleweight in the division.

Eubank Jr: I’ll take Golovkin’s scalp and clean up the division

eubank

By Dan Ambrose: Chris Eubank Jr. (22-1, 17 KOs) expects to fight IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) this year in the UK, and he feels he’s going to hand the Kazakhstan fighter his first defeat of his career. Eubank Jr. says Golovkin can’t match his talent level, and he feels he’s the better man. Eubank Jr. is confident he can take Golovkin’s power because he’s sparred with heavyweights and they couldn’t hurt him. Eubank Jr. wants to take Golovkin’s scalp and then clean up the middleweight division.

Eubank Jr. will be fighting this Saturday night against unbeaten Tom Doran (17-0, 7 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Eubank Jr. says he wants to start fighting the top world class fighters after he gets past Doran. Besides Golovkin, Eubank Jr. specifically wants Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Billy Joe Saunders and Daniel Jacobs.

Those are going to be tough fighters for Eubank Jr. to be dealing with because he’s been facing much weaker opponents during his career, and there isn’t anyone that he’s faced that is comparable to any of those fighters. If Eubank Jr. thinks wins over guys like Dmitry Chudinov, Nick Blackwell, Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan and Tom Doran mean that he can beat the best fighters at 160, then he could be kidding himself.

Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Tom Doran this Saturday at O2 Arena, London, UK

eubanktt

By Patrick McHugh: This Saturday night, Tom Doran (17-0, 7 KOs) will be facing the toughest opponent of his career in his fight against British middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. (22-1, 17 KOs) on June 25 at the O2 Arena in London, England. Eubank Jr. vs. Doran will be taking place on the Anthony Joshua vs. Dominic Breazeale card on Sky Box Office pay-per-view. In the eyes of most boxing fans, Doran is going to get badly beaten by Eubank Jr.

Doran has never been in with anyone close to the talent level of Eubank Jr., and he’s going to need to raise his game considerably to keep from getting knocked out and badly beaten by the 26-year-old Eubank Jr. There’s nothing in Doran’s track record that would suggest that he’s going to be able to pull an upset on Saturday night against Eubank Jr. This is a really dangerous fight because it’s such a mismatch on paper.

Up until now, Doran’s toughest fight of his career was against Luke Keeler last April. Doran won the fight by a 2nd round knockout after getting knocked down in the opening round.

Hearn: Golovkin-Eubank Jr. is pretty much agreed

hearn7890

By Dan Ambrose: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s promoter has mostly agreed to the negotiations for a fight between Triple G and #2 WBA, #2 WBC middleweight contender Chris Eubank Jr. (22-1, 17 KOs) for a fight in September in the UK. Hearn believes the Golovkin vs. Eubank Jr. fight will bring in 40,000 fans.

Hearn sees it as a huge pay-per-view fight. The Golovkin-Eubank Jr. fight can take place if Golovkin’s promoters want the fight, and he thinks they do. Eubank Jr. will need to win his next fight against Tom Doran (17-0, 7 KOs) on June 25 at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Eubank Jr. will be defending his British middleweight title against the domestic level fighter Doran. The fight is seen as a mismatch by most boxing fans. However, Hearn thinks the fight could be competitive, and he sees Doran as dangerous fighter. Doran’s low 41% knockout percentage would suggest otherwise.

Warren talks Golovkin – Eubank Jr. match

eubank100

By Jeff Aranow: Frank Warren, the promoter for WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders, says he offered the highly ranked #2 WBA, #2 WBC Chris Eubank Jr. (22-1, 17 KOs) a fight against Saunders, but he never heard back from him again. Warren doesn’t understand how Eubank Sr. and Eubank Jr. could walk away from the Saunders fight, and then turn around and fight Tom Doran (17-0, 7 KOs) next on June 25.

Warren further doesn’t understand how or why Eubank Jr. is calling out Golovkin, because he sees that as a fight that has zero chance of happening. However, if it does happen, Warren sees Eubank Jr. getting knocked out by Golovkin.

Warren thinks Golovkin would definitely KO Eubank Jr. if that fight eventually happens. Eubank Jr’s promoter Eddie Hearn says he’s looking to put the fight together between Eubank Jr. and Golovkin for later this year.

Eubank Jr-Doran: Tom wants Chris’ scalp for his collection

doran677

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten Tom Doran (17-0, 7 KOs) will be challenging British middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. (22-1, 17 KOs) this month on June 25 on the Anthony Joshua vs. Dominic Breazeale card at the O2 Arena in London, England. Doran, 28, believes he’s got the punching power and talent to hurt and even stop Eubank Jr. in their fight on Sky Box Office PPV. Doran wants to add Eubank Jr’s scalp to his growing collection of fine pelts.

Doran wasn’t getting many knockouts earlier in his career when he first turned pro back seven years ago in 2009, but in his last four fights, he’s found his power all of a sudden with him knocking out all four opponents. True, Doran hasn’t knocked out anyone with a lot of talent, but just getting the knockouts must have him feeling pretty confident right now that he can hurt his opponents.

However, it’s definitely not a good sign that Doran was dropped in round one by his last opponent Luke Keeler (10-2, 5 KOs) last April. Doran got back up and stopped Keeler in the 2nd round.

Eubank Jr. vs. Doran on 6/25 in London, UK

eubank100

By Scott Gilfoid: British middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. (22-1, 17 KOs) expects there to be fireworks for his title defense of his strap against little known unbeaten Tom Doran (17-0, 7 KOs) in a little over two weeks on June 25 on Sky Box Office pay-per-view at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

This fight is part of the Anthony Joshua vs. Dominic Breazeale fight card, and I must say it doesn’t measure up nearly as well as that fight. I mean, if you like watching slaughters, then Eubank Jr-Doran might be your cup of tea. I’m a different breed.

Loeffler: Golovkin to fight in August or September

golovkin633

By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) plans on fighting in August or September with or without Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs), according to Triple G’s promoter Tom Loeffler. Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy promotions are tied up with a civil trial in Florida at this time with promoter Tuto Zabala involving a promotional issue with Canelo.

Zabala was previously Canelo’s promoter until he moved on and signed with Golden Boy. Golovkin wants to fight in August or September, and he’s not going to wait for Canelo if he chooses to drag his feet. Golovkin wants to stay busy.

Hearn negotiating Eubank Jr. vs. Golovkin for September

hearn999

By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says he’s in the process of negotiating a fight between his fighter #2 WBA, #3 WBC Chris Eubank Jr. (22-1, 17 KOs) and IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) for September or October of this year. Hearn believes that Eubank Jr. will give Golovkin his second biggest payday behind a match-up against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, which Hearn does not see happening for GGG in 2016.

According to Hearn, Eubank Jr. and his dad Chris Eubank Sr. are obsessed with making the Golovkin fight because they believe they know how to beat him. Their unshakable confidence now has Hearn believing that Eubank Jr. can pull off a potential upset against Golovkin.
