Froch analyzes Martin vs. Joshua fight

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: Former super middleweight champion Carl Froch says he thinks Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) will defeat IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) in their fight tonight at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Froch doesn’t really given any concrete reasons why he believes Joshua will win other than him being a good friend of his.

I’m not sure if that’s a good reason to be picking a fighter to win. I mean, you kind of have to look at more than the fact that he’s your friend when analyzing whether he’s going to win or not, don’t you? Froch says Martin has a chance if he can land a shot at some point in the fight. Froch believes that Martin won’t just come in and give up the IBF belt to Joshua without putting up a tough fight first.

Charles Martin: I’m going to break Joshua down and stop him

BOXING By Scott Gilfoid: Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) says he’s fully prepared for his title defense on Saturday night against unbeaten and highly hyped Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, England. Martin had done his homework well in scouting out Joshua’s past fights and spotted the chinks in his armor.

Martin says he’s going to break the easy to hit 6’6” Joshua and then throttle him until he’s finished. Martin, 29, plans on using Joshua’s natural inclinations to slug against him by countering him until he either implodes or learns that he’s going to need to become more conventional by boxing instead of slugging.

Anthony Joshua could be next in line for Tyson Fury

BOXINGBy Scott Gilfoid: If things go as planned for the two British heavyweights, we could see a big clash between Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) and IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) this year. This is what Fury’s trainer Peter Fury wants to happen, and it’s clearly what Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn are both hoping will take place.

Fury, 6’9”, has a rematch against Wladimir Klitschko that he must win on July 9 for him to go forward for a fight against Joshua. I mean, Joshua and Fury can still fight each other even if they lose their next fights, but it would take away a lot of the interest in the fight by the British boxing public you would think.

Joshua weighed in one pound less than Martin at 244lbs. Both fighters looked identical in size. The only difference between them was Joshua’s bodybuilding physique he was sporting. Joshua, 6’6”, looked like he had trained for a bodybuilding physique rather than a championship boxing match.

Holyfield believes that this fight is an evenly matched fight between two big heavyweights. Holyfield likes Joshua’s hometown advantage, because he believes that could help him out. However, Holyfield sees Martin’s southpaw stance as a factor in this fight as well. Holyfield thinks the Martin-Joshua fight could be the best fight of the year.

Charles Martin ready to expose Anthony Joshua

martin49By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) says he’s ready to go into the O2 Arena in London, UK and make the arena his on Saturday night when he defends his IBF strap against unproven challenger Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs).

Some would say the 26-year-old Joshua is undeserving of a world title shot at this point in his still green career, but Martin decided to give him a shot anyway despite his shaky resume of less than stellar opposition.

Martin, 29, obviously made the decision to throw a bone to Joshua due to him being a pay-per-view attraction in the UK, where his fights are now routinely televised on Sky Box Office PPV. That’s a negative for Joshua’s loyal boxing fans, because it’s likely they’re going to need to pay to see him fight on PPV for the remainder of his career if he can show that he’s capable of being a top fighter in the sport.

David Haye analyzes Martin vs. Joshua fight

haye1000By Scott Gilfoid: David Haye will be working for Sky Box Office this Saturday night as a commentator for the heavyweight title fight between IBF champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) and the highly popular British fighter and 2012 London Olympics gold medalist Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Haye not surprisingly is pulling for Joshua, who he feels will have too much heart and boxing skills for the hard hitting 6’5” Martin. However, Haye doesn’t know for sure what to expect from the 29-year-old Martin because there’s so little tape of him against talented fighters to go on.

Haye doesn’t know how Martin will fight given lack of experience against top rung competition. The only fight against a quality opponent that Martin has had was his fight against Vyacheslav Glazkov last January, and that’s a fight that ended early after Glazkov blew out a knee. But by the same token, Joshua doesn’t have any tape out on him either against quality opposition.

Hearn: Don’t rule out Fury vs. Joshua in the summer

hearn32By Scott Gilfoid: Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn is hoping to setup a fight between Joshua and IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury next if Joshua wins his fight this Saturday night against IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin. Hearn is ready to start negotiations immediately with Fury if Joshua wins the fight, because it’s starting to look like a rematch between Fury and Wladimir Klitschko might not take place.

Hearn says that Fury looks like a fat boy compared to the heavily muscled Joshua. However, I’m not sure that Hearn realizes that muscular fighters frequently get beaten by fighters that have a fair amount of fat on them.

In other words, having a lot of muscles works against you in the sport of boxing. Now if this was something wrestling or American football, then Joshua would have a clear advantage over someone like Fury, but it’s not. Joshua looks like a dedicated weight lifter to me, and not like a serious athlete.

Chisora predicts KO win for Joshua over Martin

joshua54By Scott Gilfoid: #9 IBF, #11 WBO, #12 WBC Dereck Chisora (25-5, 17 KOs) is predicting a late knockout win for Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) this Saturday night in his title challenge against IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Chisora, 32, thinks Joshua’s jab will give the 6’5” Martin problems in this fight. Chisora thinks that Joshua can knockout his opponents with his jab alone. I haven’t see this take place, so I’ll have to take Chisora’s word for it. If Joshua is able to KO his opponents with his jab, then it might some of the 40-year-old guys that he built his resume on.
