Glazkov vs. Martin added to Wilder-Szpilka fight card on 1/16

wilder555By Scott Gilfoid: As expected, the heavyweight clash between #1 IBF Vyacheslav Glazkov (21-0-1, 13 KOs) and #4 IBF Charles Martin (22-0-1, 20 KOs) has been added to the heavyweight card featuring the talented WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) vs. Artur Szpilka (20-1, 15 KOs) on Showtime Championship Boxing on January 16th next month from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

By adding a second heavyweight title fight to the existing Wilder-Szpilka card, it’s obviously going to make for a thrilling fight card to say the least. While I’m not too enamored with the Glazkov vs. Martin fight, I don’t think it taint the Wilder fight card any by the fight turning out to be a buzz-kill for the many boxing fans that will be tuning in to see the fight live on Showtime and watching it at ringside in the Barclays Center.

Warriors Boxing wins Glazkov-Martin purse bid

By Scott Gilfoid: Warriors Boxing won Friday’s purse bid for the IBF heavyweight clash between Charles Martin (22-0-1, 20 KOs) and Vyacheslav Glazkov (21-0-1, 13 KOs) with a winning bid of $1,238,000. The bid beat out Main Events’ bid of $888,000. Main Events represents the 31-year-old Glazkov. Warriors Boxing works with adviser Al Haymon. What this means is that we will likely be seeing the Martin vs. Glazkov fight on Premier Boxing Champions in early 2016. The Glazkov vs. Martin fight will take place next month on January 16th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

IBF strips Tyson Fury of title for not agreeing to mandatory defense

fury11111By Scott Gilfoid: The International Boxing Federation stripped IBF heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) of his IBF strap earlier Tuesday for him failing to agree to defend his title against unbeaten #1 IBF Vyacheslav Glazkov (21-0-1, 13 KOs) in his next fight, according to Dan Rafael.

There was a Fury-Glazkov purse bid scheduled for Friday at the IBF’s headquarters, but it won’t be needed now. Fury couldn’t take the fight with Glazkov, because Fury will be fighting Wladimir Klitschko in a rematch in early 2016. The Ukrainian had a rematch clause in his contract for his fight last Saturday night, a fight which Fury won by a boring 12 round unanimous decision.
