Victor Ortiz vs. Carlos Molina on Broner-Maidana card on December 14th

ortiz4By Allan Fox: Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) has been added to the December 14th Adrien Broner vs. Marcos Maidana pay-per-view card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ortiz, 26, will be challenging IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina (22-5-2, 6 KO’s) for his title in the co-feature bout on the card.

This is a tough comeback fight for Ortiz. Molina is no joke and if Ortiz isn’t in top shape and ready for a touch fight, we could see Ortiz losing again.

It’s a good match-up for Ortiz because Molina isn’t a big puncher and Ortiz would have a huge advantage in hand speed, power and mobility. By the time Ortiz gets in the ring, he’ll have been out of action for 1 1/2 years since his last fight in June of 2012.

Canelo, who was beaten by Floyd Mayweather Jr. last Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada, is already received an offer for a fight by IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina (22-5-2, 6 KO’s) if he wants to take the fight.

Mayweather wants Canelo to fight Carlos Molina next for IBF 154 lb. title

canelo64By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) is hoping that former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) will be agreeable to fighting newly crowned IBF 154 lb. title holder Carlos Molina (22-5-2, 6 KO’s) for his IBF strap next. Molina defeated Ishe Smith by a 12 round split decision last Saturday night on “The One” undercard a the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather said to USA Today “This is one of the best pound-for-pound champions in the world today, and before long he’ll be a champion again. Actually, I’d like to see Canelo fight Molina…that would be good for his next fight, to get his confidence back. He’s a young champion and he fought his heart out tonight.”

Miguel Cotto vs. Carlos Molina possible for October 5th

cotto563By Allan Fox: Former three time world champion Miguel Cotto (37-4, 30 KO’s) could be facing junior middleweight contender Carlos Molina (21-5-2, 6 KO’s) on October 5th, according to Steve Kim. There isn’t a venue yet, but Barclays Center in New York is a possibility.

Besides Molina’s name, Erislandy Lara, Vanes Martirosyan, Demetrius Andrade, Sergey Rabchenko and Zaurbek Baysangurov are also being mentioned as potential opponents for Cotto, according to Fightnews. However, I would find it hard to believe that Cotto would want to take on any of them because they’re either too tough or too obscure for Cotto to be facing one of them coming off of two straight losses.

Ishe Smith vs. Carlos Molina in late July

molina12By Eric Thomas: IBF junior middleweight champion Ishe Smith (25-5, 11 KO’s) vs. Carlos Molina is in the works for late July according to Dan Rafael. There still isn’t a specified date or venue for the fight but it should be announced soon.

Smith recently defeated IBF champion Cornelius Bundrage by a 12 round decision to capture his IBF title last February in a hard fought fight.

Molina, 29, has a two-fight winning streak going since being beaten by James Kirkland in a highly controversial fight last year where the referee stopped the fight that Molina was head in after his corner person stepped inside the ring after the round had ended following a knockdown of Molina by Kirkland.

Julio Diaz: I’m not Carlos Molina; Khan’s team made a mistake in choosing me

diaz55By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF lightweight champion Julio Diaz is considered to be a huge underdog in his fight against former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) this month on April 27th at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, UK. Diaz, 33, has been picked out specifically to be a sacrificial lamb for Khan to slaughter in this fight.

Diaz said to Sky Sports News: “They think it’s a safe fight, for him to come back and rebuild his career and his confidence. He took on Carlos Molina in his last fight…If they chose me for Amir to look great in his hometown. I think it’s the worst mistake they made.”

Canelo should fight Carlos Molina if he doesn’t want Trout

molina56By Dan Ambrose: If WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions are negative to the idea of him fighting unbeaten WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout next on May 4th, then Golden Boy needs to use their ace in the hole Carlos Molia (21-5-2, 6 KO’s) to step forward and be the one that faces the 22-year-old Canelo.

What makes the 29-year-old Molina such a good option for Canelo is that he’s got very little power, he doesn’t move a lot around the ring, and he’ll be right there in close trying to match Canelo body punch for body punch for 12 rounds.

Spinks vs. Molina on Friday night on ESPN

506By Allan Fox: On Friday night, former two division world champion Cory Spinks (39-7, 11 KO’s) will be looking to rebound from a disappointing 7th round knockout defeat at the hands of IBF light middleweight champion Cornelous Bundrage from June of last year by taking on #4 IBF Carlos Molina (20-5-2, 6 KO’s) in an IBF light middleweight eliminator for #2 spot at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois.

The fight will be televised by ESPN Friday Night Fights in the United States, and will likely have a fairly large audience to see this fight card because in addition to the excellent Spinks-Molina fight, there will also be super middleweight slugger Don George facing James Cook in an eight round bout, and welterweight Antwone Smith facing former lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo in a 10 round bout.
