Trout: I’m bigger and stronger than Canelo; I’m putting on a boxing clinic on Saturday

COMAIN EVENT_KR6A2172(Photo Credit: Stephanie Trapp / SHOWTIME) By Dan Ambrose: WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) sees himself as the bigger and stronger and more talented fighter compared to his shorter opponent WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) for this Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Trout said to eastsideboxing.com “They’re [the Alamodome fans] going to see a boxing clinic…If I see thing aren’t going well for me, I’ll change up…I feel I’m the bigger, stronger guy. I’m going to prove it on Saturday…they say he’s the stronger guy…he’s not. He hasn’t fought anyone my size.”

I agree with Trout. He does look like the bigger fighter, and even if he’s not quite the same puncher as Canelo, he punches hard enough to make it really close in the power department. The main differences between the two of them are the size advantage that Trout has in addition to his superior boxing skills and southpaw stance.

Trout-Canelo preview: Mexican idol puts Mayweather superfight on the line against rising star Trout

canelo9By Peter Wells (twitter- @boxingpeter): Since shocking almost everyone in the Madison Square Garden last December, Austin Trout’s life has changed drastically. He may not have reached the super-stardom of Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao, but in upsetting Puerto Rican superhero Miguel Cotto, Austin is now in the position where he calls the shots.

Trout took his opportunity in the limelight to shout out Golden Boy’s new Golden Boy, Canelo Alvarez, a fight GBP did not want their superstar to take. But Canelo wanted to show to fans why he is unlike other fighters who tell the press they’ll fight who their promoters put in front of them. Canelo took the bait, backing up his claims that he wishes to fight the best and setting up a Light Middleweight superfight on Saturday 20th April.

Canelo vs. Trout: When the Dust Settles

canelo02By Donald Crisp: The match that many of us have been waiting for is upon us.  In just a few hours, Austin Trout will set out to prove two things:  (1) he is the rightful, undisputed King of the 154 lbs division, and (2) Saul “Canelo” Alvarez can be stopped.

Before we discuss the viability of Austin Trout’s objectives, let’s get one thing clear:  no matter who wins or loses, both fighters are worthy opponents.  While this may seem like a lackluster statement, it merits discussion because many seem to think that just because one good fighter loses to another good fighter, the losing fighter must be no-good.  That is not the case here.  Both fighters, win or lose, are top, world-class fighters.  A loss doesn’t eviscerate that accolade.

Trout: I’ve fought against fighters with Canelo’s style my whole life

Trout_KR6A1178(Photo Credit: Stephanie Trapp / SHOWTIME) By Dan Ambrose: WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) feels very at home fighting WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) this Saturday night because he’s fought a lot of guys with the same identical style throughout his whole life, so he knows what to expect from the 22-year-old Canelo.

Trout grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico and he’s fought lots of Mexican fighters with the Canelo style of fighting. Trout doesn’t believe that Canelo has fought too many guys with his style of fighting and that’s going to be the difference in this fight.

Trout_KR6A1150(Photo Credit: Stephanie Trapp / SHOWTIME) By Dan Ambrose: WBC president Jose Sulaiman says he had a conversation with WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout(26-0, 14 KO’s) recently and promised him that the judges will be fair for his fight against WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) on Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Sulaiman said on his twitter: “Yesterday I met @NoDoubtTrout and had a talk, he is such a nice man. I promised him neutrality in ring official’s decisions if the bout goes. The long way, he told me he trusted the #WBC. I’m happy for champions like him, humble and courageous at the same time.”

Canelo with Mexican arrest warrant out on him for alleged assault

canelo55By Chris Williams: WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has a warrant for his arrest in Mexico for an alleged 2011 assault of the 5’3” former two-time IBF light flyweight champion Ulises Solis, according to record.com.mx. Both Canelo and his brother Juan Ramon have warrants out on them in the state of Jalisco.

Solis made a complaint for October of 2011, accusing Canelo of allegedly beating him and causing injuries.

Canelo has a fight coming up this Saturday night against WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. This is a big, big step up fight for Canelo because up until now he’s been matched against fighters like Matthew Hatton, Alfonso Gomez, Lovemore N’dou, Josesito Lopez, Ryan Rhodes and Shane Mosley.

Canelo thinks he can adapt to Trout’s speed

Canelo_KR6A1471(Photo Credit: Stephanie Trapp/SHOWTIME) By Dan Ambrose: If you’ve watched WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarado (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) fight before you’ll have noticed that he’s not exactly the fastest fighter you’ll ever see, especially with his slow, flat-footed style of moving around the ring. He’s never going to be considered a mover like a young Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Pernell Whitaker.

This Saturday night, Canelo is facing by far his best opponent of his career in WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) on Showtime from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

This fight presents all kinds of problems for Canelo because he’s going to be facing a fighting style that he’s been largely shielded from by his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions. Whether intentional or not, Canelo has not been matched against fighters with good foot speed that can move around the ring.

Canelo says he’s ready for Austin Trout on Saturday

canelo1By Dan Ambrose: WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) has spent the past month sparring with southpaws with the same size and fighting style of his opponent for this Saturday night WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) and the 22-year-old Canelo sees himself as being 100% ready for this fight.

Canelo said to centraldeportiva.com “During the preparation had good sparring with the style and characteristics of Trout and we are ready. Trout is a southpaw and that makes it tough fights.
